New Madrugada Album: Not much is known about Madrugada's follow-up to 2005's "The Deep End," since then the fans have been served the live-CD "Live At Tralfamadore" and the live-DVD "Live At Oslo Spektrum," while the highly-awaited "Ivory Town" has been pushed to the back of the priorities list time and time again. On this page, the news and rumours surrounding the next Madrugada album will be presented.

As of February 2007, there is very little to tell about Madrugada's awaited follow-up to their last studio album, "The Deep End" from 2005. What seems certain is that the next studio release from the band will not be the concept-album they have worked on for many years, "Ivory Town," but rather new material and what they call and a normal record. "Ivory Town" is not totally dead in the water, but is rather being worked on in the background.

In 2006 the band announced that they were building their own studio in Oslo, with the plan being that they can spend a lot of time both rehearsing and recording their material there. Their debut album, "Industrial Silence" from 1999, took three months in the studio to get completed, and while the next albums were quicker affairs, Sivert expressed feelings that the band gets the best results when they get to spend as much time as necessary working on the small details. They have always co-produced their own albums, bar "The Deep End," and Frode has been working on producing other people's music since 1999, so it could very well be that for the next record they take everything in their own hands and put it together without an external producer.

Unfortunately, though work on the new studio was scheduled to start in Autumn 2006 and the band had plans to start recording new material by Christmas that year, things seem to have taken a lot longer than expected to get the studio ready. Frode is the one in charge of the new Madrugada HQ, and by February 2007 it was still in the progress of getting put 'even more together,' whatever that might mean.

Meanwhile, both Sivert Høyem and Robert Burås (aka. Bobby Cagehill) have spent the time since the last 'Madrugada-period' in Summer 2006 focusing on their solo-projects. Sivert released "Exiles" in December 2006, and will be touring extensively in Norway from January through March 2007, while My Midnight Creeps' self-titled second album is expected in February 2007, with some touring to go along with the release. Both solo-projects will also be performing at various festivals during the summer.

So that leaves very little time left to focus on putting together a new Madrugada album in the very near future, and with the expectations of following up the major successes of the last three releases on their shoulders - "The Deep End," "Live At Tralfamadore" and the "Live At Oslo Spektrum" DVD were all Number 1-released in Norway - it would not be expected that they risk losing the large fanbase they have built together by quickly throwing together a new album and hope for the best.

The little new material we know exists, "You Better Leave" was already released in a live recording on both "Live At Tralfamadore" and the "Live At Oslo Spektrum" DVD, but it is such a good song that it should be expected that the fans get a studio recording eventually. "Whatever Happened To You" has been played extensively since the Norwegian tour in early 2006, so most fans should be aware of this song, while "What's On Your Mind" was written in Summer 2006 and only performed once, in December the same year. Other than these few songs, little is known about the material the band is currently thinking of as the future of Madrugada, but they seem willing to re-visit their past in more ways than just with the "Ivory Town" concept-album, with Frode mentioning that a very early unreleased song such as "Hush Sleep Tonight" could be considered for the new album.
