News August 2000: These were the news concerning Madrugada and this page in August 2000. To see recent news, please click go to the Madrugada / Page News section.
August 30th 2000: The "Electric" single jumped up one place on the official Norwegian singles chart list, Topp 20, this week, to a Fourteenth place. The "Industrial Silence" album fell one place on the album chart list, to a Twenty-first place. The album has been in the charts for Thirty-one weeks now, which is very impressive. Also, according to a recent article in Dagbladet, the album has sold 57.000 copies in Norway so far. 22.000 of these copies have been sold this year, while 35.000 copies were sold in 1999. This is very impressive for a debut album consisting of music that is very far from being labeled hit list-friendly. It is uncertain how many copies have been sold outside of Norway, but at least 15.000 copies shifted hands in Germany after the European Tour earlier this year. August 27th 2000: When Madrugada played at the Knaack Klub in Berlin, Germany on March 20th Radio 1 in Berlin were there and recorded the show. An hour from the show was broadcast in late June in a live special which included performances by far more known artists such as Elton John, Santana, The Cure, Travis and many more. This broadcast did not include the songs performed during the encore, including the new song "Black Mambo" and an acoustic solo performance of "This Old House" by Sivert Høyem. On August 12th they re-aired the show, this time the full show! But unfortunately, this time the only person I know who lives in Berlin and had a chance to record it was in Norway... If anybody else recorded the radio broadcast please be very kind and let me know about it as I am interested in a copy of the full show. My e-mail address is webmaster@madrugada.de. August 26th 2000: There has been some discussion on where Madrugada actually played on June 11th. They were supposed to play at the Kâsel Festival in Germany, information about this was posted on their official webpage. But Glitterhouse Records claimed that the band would play at their Orange Blossom Special IV in Beverungen, Germany. This is a very small two-day festival with about 1.000 visitors who all subscribe to the Glitterhouse catalogue. Now it has been proven that the band did in fact play this small festival and not the Kâsel Festival. Lars Haugen of HGH posted a short message in the Glitterhouse Records guestbook, saying "I had a really good time at the Orange Blossom Festival this summer. Even though my guitars got lost on the fucking plane, I managed to play the gig. Thanks to Madrugada for lending me some guitars!" Glitterhouse Records tried to record all of the performances at this festival, but unfortunately their recording equipment misbehaved. Therefore they have requested that all of their visitors who did bootlegs recordings during this festival send copies of this material to them as they are compiling a CD release from this festival. It is uncertain whether Madrugada's performance was professionally recorded by them or not and whether any Madrugada stuff is considered for the compilation album. August 23rd 2000: The best Madrugada story I have heard in a while: Madrugada was supposed to play at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival on July 5th as previously reported on this page. But since the band had played in Kongsberg earlier that year, the concert organizers demanded that the band should come up with something new that had never been played before. This is why they were listed as Madrugada Special on the bill. Madrugada were on tour in Europe right before the Kongsberg Jazz Festival and did not have the time or the enery to come up with new material and rehearse it. Therefore, Kongsberg Jazz Festival turned down Madrugada and would not let them play at the festival! Way to go if you do not want visitors at your festival next year... On a different note, the "Electric" single is doing good on the official Norwegian singles chart, Topp 20. In its second week in the chart it jumped up from a Nineteenth to a Fifteenth place. Even more amazing, the album "Industrial Silence" jumped up seven spots in the Topp 40 album chart, to a Twentieth place. The album has been in the charts for thirty weeks now! When it comes to the band being in America, they left Norway on Monday August 21st. It is not certain whether they will stay as long as the eight weeks previously reported on this page, some say they will only stay there for six weeks. A close source said they have 'a wicked list of producers' for the album. Who these people actually are will not be published at this time. It is also uncertain whether the band is in New York to actually record new material. Chances are they are there just to mix already recorded material for use on the album, but this is yet to be clarified. Seeing the only known recording session this year was done in Copenhagen in March and only seven songs were recorded at that time, it is likely they will record at least some new stuff. More information about this later on. In The Rare Songs FAQ "Unknown Title #3" was proven to be "We Are Go" while "Unknown Title #4" was "Two Black Bones." Thanks to Raymond Hauger who has access to live recordings of these songs for letting me know. This information was also changed on The Concert Chronology in the August 18th 2000 setlist. August 21st 2000: The Concert Chronology was updated with three new additions, all with full setlists. Four songs were added to The Rare Songs FAQ, all of them being the new songs performed at Studentersamfunnet in Trondheim, Norway on August 18th. August 20th 2000: The guys in Madrugada, plus selected guests to keep them company, are now in New York in America where they will stay for about eight weeks to record the follow-up album to "Industrial Silence." They are also expected to record parts of the new album in Norway at a later time, but this is yet to be confirmed. It is also uncertain who will produce and record the album. They have said in several interviews that recording live in studio gave them a good feeling when it came to the finished recorded material, so most likely they will record a number of songs this way. The last couple of weeks the band has been rehearsing new material and playing a few concerts in Germany and Norway. At Studentersamfunnet in Trondheim, Norway on August 18th they played five new songs, one of them being "Black Mambo" and the other four being songs I have never heard about before. These are most likely new songs that will be recorded during the next couple of weeks. August 17th 2000: A small update to The Concert Chronology section today. This is by far the biggest single document on madrugada.de, currently sized 24kB of pure text. A bit of that is due hidden text used to keep track of people who submit stuff to the Chronology, for easy reference later on. Even though, the Chronology is far from complete. Any additions, big or small, are greatly appreciated at webmaster@madrugada.de. August 16th 2000: A brand new section is available on this page. The one and only point of The Concert Chronology is to document Madrugada's live performances and try to give as much accurate information about the performance as possible when it comes to date, venue, town, setlist and whether a recording of the show exists. Please be kind and visit this section, as I have not seen all of Madrugada's shows myself, and need much help in trying to make this document as good and as complete as possible. In case you have anything to add to the chronology, please be kind and send me a mail at webmaster@madrugada.de. Anything you have to add is of use, as long as the information you submit is accurate. "Electric" debuted on the official Norwegian singles charts list, Topp 20, on a 19th place today. The release of this single has also helped boost the sales of "Industrial Silence" which re-entered the official Norwegian album charts list, Topp 40, on a 26th place. This is the 29th week it has been in the charts. Help the band stay where they belong by buying their stuff and telling your friends to do the same! August 13th 2000: Added thirty-one new tour dates to the European Release / Concerts page. This is the complete European tour Autumn 2000, starting in Greece, then going from Denmark to Germany through Switzerland and Italy to France. Then over the water to England for one concert, back to Holland and then through Belgium for even more concerts in Germany. To end the tour they are going to play three concerts in Scandinavia, one in Denmark, one in Sweden and one in Norway. Seems to be an interesting Autumn for the band. It also seems like the band has rescheduled a little bit, and will be recording the album mostly in September, and not in August as previously reported. August 11th 2000: As previously mentioned, the "Electric" single has now been released in Norway. The official release date was Monday July 31st 2000. It has not entered the official Norwegian singles charts list, Topp 20, so far. August 10th 2000: Eighteen pictures from Grand Kjelleren in Egersund, Norway on November 12th 1999 are now available on the Exclusive Pictures page. All of these pictures were shot by Olaf Omdal from the local newspaper Dalane Tidende and they were all shot during the first three songs, "Quite Emotional," "Vocal" and "Strange Colour Blue." August 9th 2000: The "Electric" single has been officially released in Norway. The single that used to be available only in selected European countries, was released in Norway in late July or early August. This is not a new release, just a re-release, as it is the very same single, with the same tracks, same artwork and even same matrix number. Still, it is good news for the members of the big fanbase in Norway who never bothered to or never had a chance to get the single from a foreign source. Madrugada played at the Sjonstock Festival in Mo i Rana in Norway last weekend. Next weekend they will travel to Germany to play the Haldern Open Air Festival, before going into studio to record the follow-up to "Industrial Silence." There will hopeefully be some rumours and some facts about which songs are being recorded as the recording session progress. Good luck with the recordings, guys!
