News: What is happening in the world of Madrugada and on this page? I try to stay as updated as possible, and I will try to bring you the latest rumours and facts concerning Madrugada. Of course, you will also be able to read all the interesting stuff about what has been updated or changed on this very webpage.

September 28th 2000 - The "Industrial Silence" album fell to spot number Forty on the official Norwegian album chart list, Topp 40. Most likely it will be out of the charts next week. Altogether it has been in the charts for an impressive Thirty five weeks.

September 25th 2000 - I recently received a copy of the June 5th 1999 performance at Norwegian Wood in Frognerbadet, Oslo, Norway. Unfortunately, this is not the full radio broadcast. If anybody has a recording that includes more than the songs listed on the Live Bootleg Recordings page, please be very kind and e-mail me. Thank you.

One of the next couple of days I will also receive a copy of the full March 20th 2000 performance at Knaack Klub in Berlin, Germany. This recording will include the performances of the unreleased songs "Black Mambo" and "Wheelchair," along with "Terraplane," "Electric" and "This "Old House," which were not included the first time Radio 1 in Berlin broadcasted the show earlier this summer.

On September 21st Swedish P3 aired Madrugada's performance at the Hultsfred Festival in Sweden on June 17th this year. My friend Peter Carlson made sure to record this for me, and I will receive this recording very soon. According to Peter who had never heard the band before, it is supposed to be a rather good recording of a very good performance.

September 21st 2000 - The "Electric" single fell out of the singles chart in Norway, Topp 20, this week. It stayed in the charts for a total of five weeks. "Industrial Silence" also fell on the album chart list, Topp 40. But the album is still on a very impressive Fifteenth place, four places down from last week.

September 13th 2000 - "Industrial Silence" is now being sold as a Nice Price record in Norway, meaning it costs about half the price of a regular compact disc in selected chain stores for a short period of time. After a while the price for the album will most likely rise a bit and end up at about two thirds of the regular price of compact discs.

Due to the cheap price, the album jumped up Seventeen places on the Norwegian album chart list, Topp 40, to an amazing Eleventh place. It has been in the charts for Thirty-three weeks now. Also because of this, two of Madonna's albums returned to the charts, while Radiohead's "The Bends" album debuted on the charts several years after its release!

Unfortunately, the "Electric" single fell three places in its fifth week in the singles chart, Topp 20. It is now on a Fifteenth place. Back to the album chart, Anneli Drecker's "Tundra," which features Sivert Høyem on backup-vocals on "Sandstorm," re-entered the charts on a Twenty-fifth place this week.

When it comes to this page, I decided to remove The Madrugada Webring, as it only consists of two webpages. If you want links to other Madrugada pages, visit the Internet Resources section. The lyrics section of this page is expected to be put up very soon.

September 11th 2000 - It has now been confirmed that the band is America to actually record the album, and not just mix it. They are using a studio called Water Music Recorders, which is located at 931 Madison Street in Hoboken, New Jersey, just in case you are in the area and feel like giving the guys a visit! The band is working day and night and everything is working out great so far. They are even considering staying a week longer than the eight weeks they planned to stay. Also, Rob Grenoble is believed to have something to do with the album, but this is still unconfirmed information. You can visit the Water Music Records webpage, located at http://www.watermusic.net. Thanks a lot to Pamela for these great news.

September 7th 2000 - Some minor changes to the website. The European Release / Concerts section does no longer exist. Instead I decided to put the information about the forthcoming concerts in The Concert Chronology section and make a new section, called Concert Reviews, for extended information about concerts. This new section will include a lot more detailed information about certain shows than what you will find in the chronology.

A huge update to The Concert Chronology. Most of the updates are concerts from 1998 and 1999, and some of the dates might be slightly incorrect. There are also some names of venues missing. If anyone have anything to add to the chronology, please be kind and e-mail me at webmaster@madrugada.de.

A new song, "Dead End Mind," was added to The Rare Songs FAQ. "Unknown Title #1" turned out to be a cover of the Bruce Springsteen song "I Don't Come Around Here No More." Information about "Dead End Mind" was also added to the Information About New Album page, which has been totally re-written.

As mentioned in earlier news, Madrugada did a recording session in Stockholm in Sweden earlier this year, which was supposed to haul material for the follow-up album to "Industrial Silence." The material recorded, including "Black Mambo," ended up as a demo. These recording sessions started on Monday January 10th.

According to Sivert, no one in the band can remember who shot the picture that wound up as the cover of "Industrial Silence." The picture is a woman's head and the handlebars of a scooter, and they found it spray-painted on a door in East Village in New York. "We might own the artist some money now," Sivert once said to a newspaper.

The "Electric" single keeps on rising on the official Norwegian singles chart list, Topp 20. This week it is the Thirteenth most sold single in Norway, up one place since last week. Unfortunately, the "Industrial Silence" album fell seven places, to a Twenty-seventh place, on the album chart list Topp 40.

September 6th 2000 - Three concerts were added to The Concert Chronology. Information about which day of the week the concert took place was also added to every concert, as I personally feel this is rather important information that should be included in a chronology.

An interesting quote can be found on Bob Egan's official website. "In May of 1999 I spent a month in Halden, Norway producing a record for Norwegian country-rockers Bonkers. The last day I was there Madrugada showed up and asked if I would play on a few tracks. We ended up spending the whole day and I overdubbed steel on seven tracks! The record has done quite well, spending over two months in the top ten in Norway and securing the commitment of Virgin to release it world-wide."

Festival Radio usually interviews artists during the Roskilde Festival. At this year's festival they interviewed Madrugada on June 29th, the day before their performance at the festival. The interview has been aired on the radio, and it is also supposed to be available through their website some time in the future. Click here to go directly to the Madrugada section of Festival Radio. Four pictures taken in the tour bus during the interview are available there.

The German DocRock page has a lot of stuff about Madrugada. Unfortunately, most of it is in German. Featured is a very long RealMedia video file of an interview with the band, you can stream it from the website. Be aware of the fact that the actual size of the interview video is 20 MB, so you either need a good Internet connection or a lot of time on your hands to be able to see the full video. A text version of the interview, which of course was done in English, is also available. Click here to go directly to the Madrugada section of the website.

As mentioned earlier, thirteen exclusive pictures taken by Bjørn Meløy are available at http://www.avacom.no/madrugada/. These were taken at one of the Rockefeller concerts in Oslo in Norway last year. Unfortunately, various information about these Rockefeller performances exist. Could those of you who read this and has knowledge about those concerts please check out his pictures and then e-mail me at webmaster@madrugada.de and tell me whether they are from the November 19th or November 20th 1999? Thank you.

Four pictures taken at a Madrugada concert are available on the Panzerphoto web site. All pictures are taken by Hans Christian Kvamme, and they look really good.

September 4th 2000 - A small update to The Concert Chronology. A scan of the ticket for the performance at Nighttown in Rotterdam, Netherlands on November 18th is available here. Thanks to Leo Postma for scanning the ticket and sending it to me.

September 3rd 2000 - Some info meant for the September 1st update was accidentally erased and was not uploaded. The working title for the American tour is supposed to be "Leiv Eiriksson Revisited," there are serious plans for making a rock 'n' road movie during this tour, and the bands expect to play for about fifteen people during a couple of these shows.

According to the organizer of the tour, Tom Skjeklesæther, the most important thing is not how many people go to the concerts but who these people are. Tom Skjelesæther is also the manager of Madrugada. PR-agents will be hired for the tour, as none of the bands currently involved with the project have their albums on the American market yet.

September 1st 2000 - According to the August 31st issue of Verdens Gang, three of Norways most popular rock bands will go on a big American tour next year. The bands are Madrugada, Big Bang and Midnight Choir. The tour is expected to start at the South By Southwest Festival in Texas on March 20th 2001, and the organizers are planning about twenty concerts. The tour will go East from Texas and then North, and is supposed to end in the Seattle-area.

It is uncertain whether the concerts will be organized as a one-band concert, if all three bands will be on the bill and play at every venue or if they have some other idea for how they should do it. The tour will cost about one million Norwegian kroner, about 140.000 American dollars, and will be funded by Kassettavgiftsfondet, private sponsors and the band's record labels.

According to the same issue of the paper, Madrugada is one of few Norwegian bands who are expected to be kept on the label when Warner takes over EMI in the middle of October. Madrugada are signed to Virgin Norway, a part of Virgin, which is a part of EMI. Confusing? It will probably get even worse, as the different names for the labels will most likely be kept intact. That means Madrugada will not be on Warner after the take-over, they will still be on Virgin Norway, part of Virgin, which is part of EMI which again is part of Warner.

The recording sessions for the follow-up album to "Industrial Silence" is taking place in Hoboken, New York in America. I still do not know exactly which studio, or studios, they are recording in and which producers are involved with the project, but hopefully information about this will surface soon.

Madrugada's performance at the Hultsfred Festival in Sweden on June 17th will be broadcast on Swedish P3 radio. The broadcast is part of a live special that week, and Madrugada will be on between 21:03 and 22:00 on Tuesday September 19th. Most likely the whole performance will be aired. Thanks to Jan Saghaug for this information.

As mentioned in one of the August updates, Radio 1 in Berlin aired the full March 20th concert from knaack Klub in Berlin, Germany. I did not get a copy of this as my girlfriend who lives in Berlin was currently visiting me here in Norway when they aired it on August 12th. The radio channel also refuses to send out a copy of the broadcast, claiming the band and some office in Germany dealing with these issues do not allow them to do this. So if anyone has a copy of the full concert, please be very kind and send me an e-mail at webmaster@madrugada.de.

The Raft, http://www.the-raft.com/, where Madrugada have been presented several times before, have put up a rather long interview with the band. The interview took place at the time of one of the performances in London, England earlier this year. There are also a couple of rather small pictures that I have not seen on any other pages. Click here to go directly to part 1 of 2 of the interview.

Bjørn Melbye has put up thirteen exclusive pictures from a Madrugada concert on his webpage at http://www.avacom.no/madrugada/. Be sure to check them out, as they can not be found on other Madrugada pages, and also due to the fact that they look really great!

The concert on November 18th will be played at a venue called Nighttown in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Thanks to Leo Postma for this information.

Franzi Ress told me that it is uncertain whether the concert planned to be arranged at Kesselhaus in Berlin, Germany on October 30th is really going to take place on that date, as the official Madrugada and Virgin websites say. On the ticket it says that the concert is going to take place on October 29th.

A lot of people have been requesting a lyrics section on this page. Although I am against putting up lyrics on the Internet, as it is a matter of copyright issues, I have decided that I should transcribe the lyrics and put them up on this page since people want them. Expect this section to be up about a week from now.

August turned out to be the most news-filled month in the history of this webpage, although the band tried their best to stay out of the spotlight by only playing a handful of shows. Hopefully September will be just as much fun, at least it looks promising from this update!
