News: What is happening in the world of Madrugada and on this page? I try to stay as updated as possible, and I will try to bring you the latest rumours and facts concerning Madrugada. Of course, you will also be able to read all the interesting stuff about what has been updated or changed on this very webpage.

October 25th 2000 - Until November 6th, the only part of this page that will be updated is Madrugada Trip. I will be on the road following the band to eight different cities in Germany and Switzerland and will probably not have the time nor the energy to do drastic work on any other sections. The plan is that the Madrugada Trip page will be updated daily, though, and the news normally added to this page will find its way onto that page instead, so please check it out as often as possible for updates.

Madrugada Trip will include a tour diary and information about the concerts, including setlists, new songs and information about everything you can and can not imagine you would want to know about. Madrugada news will also be added to that page, and hopefully some of the pictures I have taken during the first concerts will be developed, scanned and put up on the page when we have a day off in Berlin.

October 24th 2000 - The concert in Berlin, Germany will definitely take place on Monday October 31st, like the ticket agency says, and not on Sunday October 30th like Virgin have claimed. Some ticket agencies have also accidentally put Knaack Klub as the venue, but the correct venue is Kesselhaus. The concert is being organized by Knaack, though.

October 23rd 2000 - Some of the places where Madrugada will and have played on the European tour have webpages. On some of the following pages you will find some information about Madrugada: Rodon Club, Mylos Club, Voxhall, Kesselhaus and Fri-Son. The Fri-Son webpage says that on November 3rd a band called Magicrays will be the warm-up band, for example. Thanks to Raymond Hauger and Franzi Ress for these links.

October 19th 2000 - The newly released "Beautyproof" single, which was officially released on Monday October 16th 2000, should be available in any record store Norway. Therefore there is no need for Norwegians to go through the trouble of buying it online. This also means that the single will most likely debut on the Norwegian Singles chart one of the next weeks. Buy it and tell all your freinds to buy it, hopefully it will stay on the chart for some time then.

A local newspaper in Norway, Stavanger Aftenblad, published a very short piece on Madrugada in today's issue. One of their journalists took the same flight as the band from New York last week, and he got information from them about the recording of their album and the planned release in January next year. Other than that, Jon humouristically referred to "The Industrial Silence Tour" they have just started as the "Industrial Hell Tour."

Information about the "Beautyproof" single plus a promo copy of "Industrial Silence" was added to Madrugada Discography. Added and re-wrote some stuff on The Rare Songs FAQ, and made a big update to The Concert Chronology.

October 18th 2000 - "Beautyproof" has just recently been released as the third EP off "Industrial Silence." Along with "Beautyproof" it also includes "1990," which is also available on "New Depression EP," and a never-before-released track called "Legends And Bones." Apparently "Legends And Bones" is taken from "The Shit City Session," I do not know which session this is supposed to be. You can order the EP from Swedish Ginza. Thanks a lot to Andreas Lindell for these news.

The concert at Rodon Club in Athens, Greece on Friday October 13th was apparently a great concert, and songs that are not on "Industrial Silence" were played. A local radio stationed reported that they had played some new songs, but it is uncertain which songs these were. A member of the audience reported that the audience was having a great time, the band seemed to be in a really great mood, and they played for about one and a half hours, starting at a quarter past ten. Thanks to Kostas Frangouidis for the information.

Thanks a lot to Stelios Kazadzis, the concert at Mylos Club in Thessalonika, Greece on Saturday October 14th was taped. The venue was sold out, and about five hundred people were in the audience. These songs were played, not in correct order: "Shine," "Higher," "Electric," "Salt," "Belladonna," "This Old House," "Strange Colour Blue," "Norwegian Hammerworks Corp." "Sirens," "Vocal," "Terraplane," "Black Mambo," "Highway 2.000.000," "We Are Go" and "Tonight I Have No Words For You."

Unfortunately the recording of "Norwegian Hammerworks Corp." which was the last song before the four-song encore, was cut in the middle. The recording is ninety minutes long and features the full set except for the missing minutes from that song.

Gkinis Vasilis, who also attended the show, noted that the sound at the Mylos Club is usually not very good, and that Madrugada's sound also suffered from this. The band played with great energy, but like they have previously been critizised for, they did not have any contact with the audience. Gkinis talked with the band, and they told him they would come back and play in Greece in March or June next year. He also took some black and white photographs during the show, which will be available on this page some time soon.

October 16th 2000 - Sivert will do a very special guest performance with LVO, Lofoten Og Vesterålens Orkesterforening, on Sunday October 22nd at a concert in Svolvær, Norway. LVO have made orchestral arrangements for two Madrugada songs, and Sivert will do the singing. One of the songs are known to be "Beautyproof." Hopefully this page can present exclusive pictures from this very special event. Thanks a lot to Einar Martinsen for the news.

October 14th 2000 - Madrugada are now back in Europe to play two shows in Greece. Therefore it fit well that Stelios Kazadzis, who will be going to and hopefully getting to tape the second show taking place tonight, translated an interesting interview with Jon that took place this summer. The interview, where Jon talks to Ch. Portokaloglou about the history of the band and the identity of the band's sound, was published in the Greece fanzine Mylos. Check out the English translation of the interview here.

Thanks a lot to Stelios for taking the time to translate it. The author has given his permission to put the interview on the Internet, please do not put it up anywhere else without giving proper credit to Ch. Portokaloglou, thank you very much.

The latest edition of the German magazine kulturNews features a nice interview with Sivert. It is not very long, but it has some cool information. Sivert describes "Sirens" as a song about lying awake in your bed in a big city and listening to everything that is taking place around you, while "Beautyproof" is described as the only political song he has ever written, about the fashion scene and how people are supposed to be able to tell you what is nice and what is not. Hopefully a translation of the full interview will be available on this page very soon.

It is now certain that the concert at Live Stadion in Dortmund, Germany on November 21st 2000 will never take place. Instead the venue has been changed to Zakk in Düsseldorf, Germany on the same date. It is uncertain why the venue was changed.

October 9th 2000 - Very interesting news this time. The recording sessions in Hoboken, New Jersey are going very well, and the band is fighting against the clock to finish mixing the twenty songs they have recorded before they have to leave for Greece in about a week. As of Thursday October 5th they had finished mixing three of the songs. "We Are Go" and "Black Mambo" were described as two of the songs that sound just the way they intended them to.

The band are producing the new record themselves, as previously reported on this page, while John Agnello, who mixed the "Industrial Silence" album, is co-producer, technician and mixer. Chris Mazer is also mixer, while Rudyard Lee Cullers is assistant technician.

The band have used Eric Hayward known from Richard Bucker, Calexico and Son Volt on steel guitar along with Siobhan Duffy from Gunga Din as session musicians. Thanks a lot to Jon and Frode for this information.

When it comes to the upcoming tour, it is being labeled "Industrial Silence Tour" by German tour organizers. They will play the two first shows in Greece on October 13th and 14th, and rumours say both of them have sold out. Quite impressive, but then the press down there has been very positive and supportive. Good luck with the tour, guys!

The concert on November 23rd will be held at Kägelbanan / The South Theathre in Stockholm, Sweden. Thanks to Andreas Lindell for this information. I am currently on vacation, so I have not been able to add this or any other information to any of the sub-pages, this will be done later on. This whole week only this news page will be updated.

October 4th 2000 - A huge update to The Concert Chronology, mostly thanks to one of my many favorite inside sources all over the globe. I have received a lot of Madrugada live recordings lately, these were all added to the Live Bootleg Recordings page. Thanks a lot to the people who recorded them and to the people who traded with me.

Two songs were added to The Rare Songs FAQ. "Carry Home" is a cover of a Gun Club song written byJeffrey Lee Pierce. It was played as the last song during the Knaack Klub performance in Berlin, Germany on March 20th 2000. Thanks a lot to Raymond Hauger for receiving Gun Club's "Miami" album before I did, and thus getting to notice this before I did.

The other song is another new song, a fabulous melody called "Lucy One." It was performed at the Hultsfred Festival in Sweden this Summer, and is a lot more rock-oriented than most of the material found on "Industrial Silence." Expect to see this song as one of the tracks on the forthcoming album.

This page will not be updated a lot over the next week, as I will be away on vacation. I added a page about my next vacation, taking place in the end of this month. It should be interesting for most visitors of this page, check out the page called Madrugada Trip for more information.
