News: What is happening in the world of Madrugada and on this page? I try to stay as updated as possible, and I will try to bring you the latest rumours and facts concerning Madrugada. Of course, you will also be able to read all the interesting stuff about what has been updated or changed on this very webpage. E-mail - webmaster@madrugada.de.

March 29th 2001 - First some news that should have been added on Wednesday. The "Hands Up - I Love You" EP fell out of the official Norwegian singles chart list Topp 20 this week, having been four weeks in the charts, entering on the number one spot and staying there the week after. "The Nightly Disease" album fell on the official Norwegian alum chart list Topp 40, from the impressing number one spot it kept for two weeks to a fourth place in its third week in the charts.

Franziska provided me with some interesting information about German summer festivals that Madrugada will supposerdly play at. Rock Am Ring between June 1st and 3rd, Rock Im Park between June 1st and 3rd, Rheinkultur U & D, which is a free festival, on June 30th and Melt!Openair between August 3rd and 5th. According to Konstantina Giannouli, Madrugada will play at the Rockwave Festival in Athens, Greece between July 1st and 3rd. Homepages of the festivals can be found by clicking on their names.

The concert at Mo Better in Athens, Greece on April 10th will supposedly only last for twenty minutes. It will be an acoustic set with Robert and Sivert, and will be recorded by the local radio station Rock FM. The venue has room for one hundred and fifty people plus some journalists, one hundred tickets will be distributed by the radio channel and only fifty tickets will be sold at the venue before the concert. Thanks to Konstantina Giannouli for this info.

Madrugada posted another message to the Diary section of their official homepage, madrugada.net, today. They wrote a little bit about the concert in Berlin, Germany last Monday and that Radio Eins and other radio channels all over Germany will broadcast it.

March 28th 2001 - Everyone who likes great music should make sure to get ahold of a copy of bob hund's newly-released "Stenåldern kan börja" album as soon as possible. It rocks.

Madrugada played at Planetarium Am Insulaner in Berlin on Monday night, as a sort of record release party in Germany. The venue is not really a concert venue at all, but a round room with a dome instead of a real ceiling, and pictures of the stars are projected on that. There were three blocks of seats and at the opposite side of the stage a small stage.

Before the band came on stage a guy from Virgin and one from Radio Eins in Berlin were on the stage saying that the band was presenting their new album, and that the audience should respect that by not smoking, turning off their mobile phones and not walking around too much. They said the concert was being recorded by Radio Eins and would be broadcast on Wednesday April 4th at 21:00.

1. Big Sleep 2. A Deadend Mind 3. Shine 4. Sister 5. Hands Up - I Love You 6. Vocal 7. Nightly Disease Part I 8. Quite Emotional 9. Step Into This Room And Dance For Me 10. Belladonna 11. Black Mambo 12. Nightly Disease Part II 13. Only When You're Gone

The band seemed to be in a really good and humouristic mood. Sivert did not talk much between songs, but when he did he said way too much according to Robert. Before "Step Into This Room And Dance For Me" Sivert sat down by the keyboard and started talking about the name of the song and that everyone in the audience was sitting, but they could get up and dance if they wanted to, but that they obviously prefer sitting. Then Robert said "Stop talking and get on with the music," but Sivert just showed him his middle finger.

Before playing "Nightly Disease Part I" Sivert joked that Robert would not play guitar during the song, as it was too difficult for him. He then introduced Frode on the piano and Jon on the glockenspiel. Franziska Ress went to this concert, thanks a ton to her for all the information.

March 26th 2001 - "The Nightly Disease" is the CD Of The Week on Radio Eins in Berlin, Germany. A page about that is available here. You can win the CD every day and the radio channel will play a song from the album quite often. Thanks to Franziska for the information.

March 25th 2001 - Madrugada will play at Planetarium Am Insulaner tomorrow night. Even if you are not amongst the lucky two hundred people who have won tickets for the concert, you might be able to listen to it, as Radio 1 in Berlin will tape it and air it live, along with one hundred and ten other radio stations all over Germany! I do not know the exact air time, but be sure to be listening to German radio tomorrow night if you have access to it.

In the second week of April Sivert and Robert will be on a three-day promotional tour in Greece. They will play short acoustic sets at various radio stations, and apparently also at some clubs, like at Mo Better in Athens on April 10th.

The song "I'm Sorry" which is available on the limited edition of "The Nightly Disease" features vocals by Robert! All other instruments are also played by him, for that sake. He recorded it on an eight-track at home all by himself, and plays drums, bass, guitar and sings himself. "Bill Skins Fifth" from the "Electric" single was also recorded this way, but features only guitar.

March 24th 2001 - I went to see Madrugada at Folken in Stavanger last night, and had a lot of fun. You can find information about the concert, setlists from the soundcheck and the concert and a story of what happened backstage after the concert here.

March 23rd 2001 - This week Madrugada's "The Nightly Disease" stayed on top of the official Norwegian album chart list, published on Wednesday. The "Hands Up - I Love You" EP fell on the official Norwegian singles chart list, though, from a ninth place last week to a seventeenth place this week, in its fourth week in the charts.

According to a short notice in Dagbladet today, "The Nightly Disease" is on fourth place on the album chart list in Greece, which is very cool. "Industrial Silence" has sold 65.000 copies outside of Norway since the release one year ago. Apparently the new album has already sold just as many copies, according to the same article.

March 21st 2001 - Today I received a brilliant soundboard recording from the Orange Blossom Special IV Festival in Beverungen, Germany last summer. The setlist was added to The Concert Chronology. During the concert Sivert talked a lot, one of the things he said was a joke that there was a danger that all the country-inspired acts playing at the festival would make them sound a bit like Oasis.

March 20th 2001 - Today a new section, called Diary, was added to the official Madrugada website at madrugada.net. Madrugada posted a message saying "Welcome to the new and fabulous website for our new record, 'The Nightly Disease.' Good to see so many visitors from all over the world. We are not worthy... We have just finished the second leg of our Norwegian tour and we are pleased to see so many of you at our shows. See you soon!"

March 19th 2001 - Sound files in RealMedia format from all songs off "The Nightly Disease" are now available at the German Virgin website, virgin.de. The video for "Hands Up - I Love You" is also available, click here if you want to watch it. You will need RealPlayer, available for download at real.com and certain plugins for that program to be able to view the video. Thanks to Franziska Ress for this information.

March 18th 2001 - Two concert reviews from the concert at Handelshøyskolen, Bergen on March 17th have been published. The first one, from Bergensavisen, can be read here, while the second one, from Bergens Tidende, can be read here. Both articles are in Norwegian. Thanks to Truls Nesslin for the links.

Truls also noted that the concert was filmed with three professional cameras, either by the band or by the students organizing the concert.

Christer Solstrand Johannessen provided me with the setlist for the concert in Bergen, available in The Concert Chronology. He also wrote a review of the concert that I think is rather good, which can be read here.

It seems certain that Madrugada will plat at Mo Better in Athens, Greece on Paril 10th. Most likely it will be an acoustic concert. Tickets are not available until the night of the concert, but a local radio station called Rock FM will provide some lucky fans with invitations to the concert. Thanks to Konstantina Giannouli for this information.

March 17th 2001 - The setlist from Teknikerkroa in Narvik on March 8th was added to The Concert Chronology, along with unconfirmed information about two forthcoming concerts in Berlin, Germany and Athens, Greece. If anyone has more information about these two concerts, please let me know about it.

March 15th 2001 - Madrugada played at Vaskeriet in Kristiansand last night. The concert was really good, as the band was really communicative and the audience appreciated it a lot. Sivert even crowd-surfed during the intro of "We Are Go." Even though the band put every effort into giving a great concert, the sound was unfortunately extremely bad in most parts of the venue, and therefore ruined most of an otherwise great concert experience.

Hopefully they manage to fix up the sound, which they have also been critizised for by most concert reviewers, for the forthcoming concerts on their Norwegian tour, as the sound the audience was presented with last night definitely does not represent Madrugada as we know and love them. They have a well-deserved reputation as a great live band, but to tour Norway with a live show where the vocal is hardly audible during most parts of the concert might not be ideal if they want to keep that reputation.

The setlist was added to The Concert Chronology. For those who are interested in Madrugada live recordings, someone in the audience recorded the concert on MiniDisc.

March 14th 2001 - "The Nightly Disease" debuted on top of the official Norwegian album chart list, Topp 40, today. As most people know, they did the same with "Industrial Silence," then becoming the first Norwegian rock band ever to debut on the number one spot with their debut album. Congratulations to the band and thanks to all fellow Madrugada fans for supporting good music.

Dagbladet published a review of the concert at Studentersamfunnet in Halden, Norway on March 13th today, where the reviewer Anders Grønneberg has obviously misunderstood the whole concept of going to a Madrugada concert completely. He gave the concert two out of six points because the band does not communicate with their audience. Madrugada has never been a band focusing on band members and communication, the whole point of their music is the music itself. Too bad that Grønneberg does not understand that, if he wants a communicative band he should go to a different concert.

Hopefully the bad concert reviews in Dagbladet today and VG last week does not make people avoid going to Madrugada concerts. So far I have only heard two people who have been unhappy with a concert on Madrugada's ongoing Norwegian tour. Both have, ironically, been reviewers in Norway's two biggest newspapers. If you like Madrugada on record you will like them live. If you expect a mainstream cock-rock show you will be disappointed.

March 10th 2001 - Today Dagbladet published an article about Madrugada's ongoing Norwegian tour. The most interesting part of the interview with the whole band, in my opinion, was Sivert explaining that the "Hands Up - I Love You" video was shot by a friend of theirs with an infrared camera in total darkness basically for free. In general they do not like music videos, especially not expensive productions, but they have plans of making video-collages for all the songs on "The Nightly Disease."

They were also disappointed with the review of the concert in Kabelvåg published in VG, where the reviewer gave the concert three out of six points, as they felt that he had misunderstood the concept of the concert. "Some people might not get what they expect. We do our own thing on CD and on stage," said Sivert and Jon. The article can be read here.

March 9th 2001 - Last Monday and Tuesday Madrugada were in Paris, France for promotion. One of those days Robert and Sivert were interviewed on the radio channel France Inter, and played an acoustic version of "A Deadend Mind." The interview and the song was broadcast on radio earlier today, and was also broadcast on the Internet.

I missed the beginning of the interview, but they were asked which records they would bring to a desert island. Sivert picked "Songs Of Love And Hate" by Leonard Cohen and "Marquee Moon" by Television, while Robert would have brought "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" by Neil Young, a blues album such as "His Voice Is Missing" by Lightning Hopkins and "Velvet Underground & Nico" by Velvet Underground. He joked that he would bring a Limp Bizkit album when the radio host asked about a Britney Spears record.

Those who want to can download a snippet from the acoustic performance of "A Deadend Mind" here. It is an MP3-file file that is one minute and three seconds long, it is encoded at 96 kbps and is 752 kB in size. The audio is taken from the Internet broadcast by France Inter.

March 8th 2001 - Madrugada played at Arbeider'n in Kabelvåg last night, and according to an article in Lofotposten, available here, it was a great concert. VG also reviewed the concert and gave it three out of six stars, though. I have not been able to find that review online.

The setlist last night was quite different from former setlists, of course focusing mainly on the songs from the new album. The stage show was also different, even darker than before, and the concert started with a video made by Jon's brother, Asle, with "A Deadend Mind" playing over the speakers. This was the setlist:

1. Black Mambo 2. Nighly Disease Part II 3. Belladonna 4. Hands Up - I Love You 5. Vocal 6. A Deadend Mind 7. Sister 8. Beautyproof 9. Lucy One 10. We Are Go 11. Step Into This Room 12. Higher 13. Only When You're Gone

The last three songs were played during the encore, "Strange Colour Blue" was skipped during this encore. They were also supposed to come back for a second encore, playing "Run Away With Me" and "Quite Emotional," but they did not. Apparently Frode looked really ill during most parts of the concert, this might have been the reason they skipped some songs.

Thanks a lot to Hilde Berg-Hansen for submitting a nice concert review and the setlist.

The Norwegian television channel TV2 was present last night, and showed a segment during Underholdningsnyhetene tonight. Live clips from songs as "Black Mambo," "Two Black Bones," "Beautyproof" and "Hands Up - I Love You" were aired, along with a interview with Sivert.

Madrugada were also on the Norwegian television channel NRK1 today, they showed the music video for "Hands Up - I Love You" on the program "Topp 20." Almost the entire video was shown, a couple of seconds in the end were cut. Those who missed it or want to see it again have the chance tomorrow afternoon.

The Live Bootleg Recordings page was updated, with a rather bad audience recording of the performance at Elysée Montmartre, Paris, France on November 14th last year, along with a really cool interview with Jon and Sivert before the concert. I also got two other really good recordings, one from Festival Des Ritournelles, Hénin Beaumont, France on June 23rd last year and one from Cooky's, Frankfurt, Germany on October 31st last year.

March 7th 2001 - The Concert Chronology was updated, with two more concerts for the Norwegian tour. The information was taken from Madrugada's official page, madrugada.net, which has just been updated for the first time since... ever? It looks really good.

Madrugada will start their Norwegian tour in Kabelvåg tonight, but played a mini-concert at a free show organized by the French radio station Öui FM last night. They played for forty minutes, as the second band on stage, after I Am Kloot and before The Servants, and played seven songs; "Ready To Carry You," "Only When You're Gone," "A Deadend Mind," "Hands Up - I Love You," "Vocal," "Black Mambo" and "Belladonna."

The concert was professionally recorded by Öui FM, and will be broadcast on the radio some time soon. Exact times will be posted. Those who do not have access to the radio station can listen to the broadcast at http://www.ouirock.com. Apparently, the full concert will also be available for download for a short period of time after the broadcast. Again, more information will be posted! Thanks a lot to Vinciane Lébrun for this information.

At the concert, Pierre Colombat shot some pictures at the concert with his digital camera. Eleven of those are now available on this website. Sivert with acoustic guitar, Robert, the whole band with Sivert singing then just Robert and Sivert with Sivert singing. The whole band, a picture of Frode in the corner then Robert and Sivert again. Robert posing with Sivert in the background, Sivert looking down, Sivert looking down again and the last picture is of the whole band. Thanks a lot to Pierre Colombat for letting me use these pictures on this page.

After the concert Vinciane Lébrun talked to Sivert, and he said that they were not happy with the sound as their sound engineer was ill.

Although the band has been critizised for putting out a such non-radio friendly song as "Hands Up - I Love You" as the first single from the new album, the single stays on top of the official Norwegian singles chart list the second week in a row. Those with access to the Norwegian television channel NRK1 will most likely be able to watch the video for the song on the program "Topp 20" tomorrow afternoon, and on the re-run on Friday.

March 5th 2001 - For the first time in about a year, this page had a major redesign. Not that much has been changed, but the orange color has been replaced by dark grey, while some artwork from "The Nightly Disease" album has been used for logos. All drawings are by Sivert Høyem and Jon Lauvland Pettersen, and have been edited by the webmaster of this page.

I have not had time to finish re-making everything for all the pages, so some still have parts of the old look. This will be fixed within a couple of days. Some sections of this page will also most likely be removed, while new sections will hopefully be added.

"The Nightly Disease" is out today, make sure to buy it. If you have the chance to, buy the limited edition of the album, with the bonus CD "The Nightly Disease Vol. II," as it includes three really songs that will not be available elsewhere.

March 2nd 2001 - "The Nightly Disease," due for release on Monday March 5th, will be released as a limited edition of 10.000 copies featuring a bonus CD. The bonus CD is called "The Nightly Disease Vol. II" and features three songs, "Nightly Disease Part I," "Big Sleep" and "I'm Sorry." More information about these songs can be found on The Rare Songs FAQ page, which no longer has information about the songs on the new album, as in three days they will not be considered particularly rare any more.

The Norwegian newspaper VG published a review of "The Nightly Disease" today, which can be found here. The review is very positive, with the album getting five out of six possible points. The reviwer thinks that there are many highlights on the album, specifically "Black Mambo" and "Only When You're Gone," and that if it had been a bit shorter it would have been perfect.

For those who can not wait until Monday, you can find an image of the cover for "The Nightly Disease" here. An image of the cover for "The Nightly Disease Vol. II" is also available, here. Both these images have been scanned by myself especially for madrugada.de, and should therefore not be used by anybody anywhere else. Thank you very much.

Madrugada appeared on the show "Trigger" on NRK1 television earlier today, playing "A Deadend Mind" and "Hands Up - I Love You" live in the studio. They were also interviewed, amongst other things saying it has become a policy for the band to make sure they always release something that sounds different than what they have done before.

This page has a lot of foreign visitors who did not have the opportunity to watch Madrugada live on television today. Therefore there are two clips from "Hands Up - I Love You" available on this page. Both clips are in MP3-format, they are both about one minute long, and they were both encoded by myself for use only on madrugada.de, download these files only for personal use. They were, of course, encoded from NRK1s television broadcast.

"Hands Up - I Love You" clip number one, from intro of the song, can be downloaded here. It is fifty-six seconds long, encoded at 96 kbps and 669 kB in size. The second clip, from the middle of the song, can be downloaded here. It is one minute and three seconds long, also encoded at 96 kbps and 750 kB in size.

The Madrugada Discography was updated, with the correct release number for the European limited edition version of "Industrial Silence," another promotional copy of "Beautyproof" and information about "The Nightly Disease" and "The Nightly Disease Vol. II"

March 1st 2001 - Yesterday Madrugada's "Hands Up - I Love You" debuted on the number one spot on the official Norwegian singles chart list, VG Topp 20. Very impressive! Buy your copy of the EP today if you have not made sure to do so already.

The television version of VG Topp 20, aired on NRK1 today, featured the video clip for "Hands Up - I Love You," unfortunately they cut it right before the second solo. The video looks cool, dark, and rather home-made, which is not always a negative thing. VG Topp 20 on television will be re-run on NRK1 tomorrow afternoon for those who missed it today, and for those who want to see Madrugada's video one more time.

Tomorrow Madrugada will also be on "Trigger" on NRK1 between 16:00 and 18:00. The program is mostly for teens, and of course there will be a lot of other stuff than Madrugada. Madrugada will be in studio, so there will most likely be an interview, and hopefully also a live performance of one or two songs. Time will show. Make sure to watch it if you can.

Apparently, Madrugada will do some sort of concert in Paris, France on Tuesday March 6th, the day before they start the Norwegian tour. Thanks to Vinciane Lebrun for these unconfirmed news. They will be in Paris for promotion on March 5th and 6th.
