News: What is happening in the world of Madrugada and on this page? I try to stay as updated as possible, and I will try to bring you the latest rumours and facts concerning Madrugada. Of course, you will also be able to read all the interesting stuff about what has been updated or changed on this very webpage. E-mail - webmaster@madrugada.de.
May 29th 2001 - According to the website of Wrightegaarden in Langesund, Norway, Madrugada will play there on Friday June 8th this year. This information was also briefly mentioned on the TV channel TV2s "Underholdningsnyhetene" earlier today. The first song Sivert played at the Bob Dylan 60th birthday tribute at Rockefeller in Oslo, Norway on May 23rd, was "Not Dark Yet" from the album "Time Out Of Mind." Thanks to Raymond Hauger and Bård A. Olsen for this information. May 27th 2001 - Bladet Vesterålen published a rather interesting interview with Sivert last Friday. He said that although they are playing at a lot of festivals this summer, they hope to get some vacation this year, unlike last year where there were no breaks between the festival appearances. When it comes to the festivals, Sivert said that he was looking forward to playing at Norwegian Wood, as that festival has never had a Norwegian band as headliners before, and this year Madrugada will headline. He also said that they were hoping to meet Nick Cave at one of the festivals where both artists are playing, although he said that it would feel weird to meet their own idols. But apparently, one of Sivert's biggest musical idols, Bob Dylan, is such a great artist that Sivert does not think he would like to meet him. "Bob Dylan is so huge that it would take ten men to fill someone like him," he said. The most interesting part of the interview was Sivert saying Madrugada had gone into studio again to record a new EP. The meaning is to release a new single from "The Nightly Disease" along with four or five extra tracks. "We want to make it pretty long, almost like a mini album." Sivert stated that they were happy with the record sales for the new album, which has sold close to 40.000 copies in Norway. "That is a lot more than the last record. Apart from that, this one is also selling well abroad, which is fun," Sivert said. After the summer festivals they are planning on a British release of the album, hoping to do well over there. Sivert has moved home to Vesterålen, and stated that this does not have any impact on Madrugada, as they are used to being away from eachother, as he has lived in Stockholm while Frode has spent a lot of time in London. He said that there are a lot less distractions in Vesterålen, as opposed to Oslo, and that he tries to have regular work days where he gets up early and works on his singing and writing until the afternoon. Thanks a lot to Hilde Berg-Hansen for sending me the article. May 25th 2001 - Trine Øvrevalle went to the Bob Dylan Tribute at Rockefeller on Wednesday March 23rd, and was kind enough to send me a summary of the evening, which I have taken the opportunity to translate parts of. The backing-band was The Respatexans, re-named The Rolling Thunders Revisited for the evening, consisting of rather famous Norwegian artists the Haugen brothers from Hellbillies, Geir Sundstøl, Reidar Larsen and more. These backed up the guest vocalists for the evening, Lynni Treekrem, Åge Aleksandersen, Paal Plaata, Henning Kvitnes, Prepple Houmb, Lars Lillo Stenberg, Jan Vardøen, and a lot more. Plus, of course, Sivert from Madrugada. Sivert got to close the tribute set to Bob Dylan, and unlike all the other vocalists who were only allowed to do one song, he was allowed to play two. First he did an amazing cover of a song that Trine unfortunately forgot the name of, copying Dylan's way of singing excellently, while still adding his own vocal touch to the song. Then he did "Positively 4th Street," which he dedicated to "our friends in Akersgata" while signalling what he thinks of them by raising his middle finger into the air. For the foreigners, all the crappy Norwegian tabloid newspapers, who only want to be on the side that is winning, are located in Akersgata in Oslo. Sivert covered this song brilliantly, also, but this time with a more 'normal' voice, not imitating Dylan's way of singing. NRK TV were present, and filmed parts of the tribute set. They aired a short part of Jonas Fjeld's performance on the news the same evening, but not anything including Sivert. NRK P1 recorded the entire concert, and according to Anders Bjørgan at Legends And Bones they will air it on June 22nd. More information about this later. Thanks a lot to Trine Øvrevalle for the information. May 24th 2001 - This week "The Nightly Disease" was not in the official Norwegian album chart list, Topp 40. It fell from a Twenty-first to a Forty-fifth place, and thus only got ten weeks on the album chart list. Most likely it will re-appear several times in the near future, as several large record stores are selling the album at nice price. May 23rd 2001 - First of all, the broadcast featuring Sivert on P1 on Monday was unfortunately part of the local radio broadcast, and therefore only available in the North of Norway. I am terribly sorry for the misleading information on this page, but I was unaware of this myself until only a short time before broadcast. The broadcast lasted for about twenty five minutes, and featured mostly an interview with Sivert where he got to talk in-debth about issues that concern him, and two brand new Madrugada songs performed solo by Sivert, featuring only acoustic guitar and vocals. The first song was called "Fast Blues For Little V," written last Christmas, while the second title remains unknown, some people have been guessing on the title "Majesty." In the interview Sivert said that he has moved back to Vesterålen, and that he really likes the place, as he gets time to relax and write new songs. Apparently, he tries to write about one new song per day, which is quite impressive. He also talked about his influences, about the media comparing him to Nick Cave, Chris Isaak and other famous singers, saying "I have enjoyed Cohen ever since I was as big as a cigarette-pack" and that the music of Britney Spears makes him more depressed than Nick Cave, as according to Sivert, Spears is a barbie doll and there is no identifiable human emotion in her music. Thanks a lot to Dag, Hilde Berg-Hansen and Anders Bjørgan for this information. The correct setlists to the two acoustic performances in Greece in the beginning of April were added to The Concert Chronology, thanks a lot to Bård A. Olsen and Evans Shadow. Marc Veerhes provided me with the correct information about where in the Netherlands the Lowlands Festival is arranged in August, thanks a lot. Those who have the possibility should go to Rockefeller in Oslo tonight to celebrate Bob Dylan's 60th birthday along with a number of Norwegian artists, including Sivert Høyem, who will pay tribute to Good Old Bob by playing Bob Dylan covers all night long. May 22nd 2001 - An update on the Madrugada-broadcasts from Radio F.R.E.I. posted on the guestbook at madrugada.net: The broadcast time for the first special, a re-run from July 2000, has been changed to tomorrow night between 22:00 and 24:00 on Radio F.R.E.I. on UKW-frequency 96,2 and cable frequency 90,45. The second special will be aired, as previously issued, will be aired between 22:00 and 24:00 on May 29th on the same frequencies. The broadcasts can also be heard on their homepage, click on the radio. May 21st 2001 - Madrugada's performance at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark last year will be broadcast on the Norwegian radio channel NRK P3 on Sunday June 24th between 21:00 and 24:00. Unfortunately the broadcast is only supposed to last for forty-one minutes, meaning the complete performance will not be braodcast. The same cut recording which has perviously been aired on Danish radio will most likely be aired this time also. Make sure to listen to the other two concerts the same night, also, as both Flaming Lips and Muse are amazing bands, especially live. The complete schedule of concerts due to be broadcast can be found on the NRK P3 website. Worth to notice is that NRK P3 will be broadcasting from the Roskilde Festival 2001 in the end of June and beginning of July, and will hopefully air Madrugada, while NRK P1 will be broadcasting from the Norwegian Wood Festival between June 9th and 11th, and will also hopefully air Madrugada. More information about this later. May 16th 2001 - This Monday the Norwegian radio channel P1 will have Sivert Høyem in studio to talk about his hometown and about touring with Madrugada. Supposedly, two brand new Madrugada tracks will also be aired. The program will start at five minutes past five in the afternoon. The radio channel is easily accessible all over Norway. May 15th 2001 - More recordings added to my Live Bootleg Recordings. May 12th 2001 - This week Madrugada's "The Nightly Disease" is on a fifteenth place on the official Norwegian album chart list, up seventeen places from last week in its eigth week in the charts. According to Franziska, "The Nightly Disease" was number fifteen on a recent German Alternative chart list. May 11th 2001 - This does not really have anything to do with Madrugada, but it is very important to me personally. Everyone should spend a minute and click this link. On that page, check for Muzzlewhite and press the button at the bottom. By doing that, you are voting for the amazing band Muzzlewhite to get a chance to play at the Norwegian Wood festival. Thanks a lot to everyone who does this, as I think Muzzlewhite is a great band and as I will be going to the Norwegian Wood festival this year and therefore it would be a shame if they did not get a chance to play there. Sivert Høyem is a member of the Norwegian Wood jury and will, along with the votes from the Internet, decide which bands get to play at the 'talent stage' at the festival, most likely eight out of the thirty you can vote for on the page. Here is a link to a page (in Norwegian) with an interview with Sivert about the Norwegian Wood jury work he is doing. May 10th 2001 - A message from Radio F.R.E.I. was posted at the guestbook at madrugada.net. The radio channel is located in Erfurt, Germany and will be airing two Madrugada specials in May. The first one, a re-run of a broadcast from July 200, will be broadcast between 07:00 and 09:00 in the morning on May 15th, while the second one will be broadcast between 22:00 and 24:00 on May 29th. The channel is located at the UKW frequency 96,2 and the cable frequency 90,45. The broadcasts can be heard on their homepage, click on the radio. May 7th 2001 - Here are some pictures taken from the "Vocal" music video. One from the left side, Robert close-up, Robert's guitar, Sivert close-up, Frode and Jon. Picture of the band and audience and a then of Sivert in red light. The quality of the last two pictures is a bit bad because of the small file size. All pictures are captured from the "Vocal" music video, footage filmed by Jean-Marc Barr and Pascal Arnold at Elysée Montmarte in Paris, France on November 14th 2000. The music video also contains scenes from the movie "Too Much Flesh," directed by Jean-Marc Barr, which features "Vocal" on the soundtrack. May 6th 2001 - Another sampler CD, Rock Sound Vol. 41, featuring "Beautyproof," was added to the Madrugada Discography page. Thanks a lot to Cas for the information about the CD. A Madrugada feature from when the German radio channel Radio Eins had "The Nightly Disease" as their CD of the week can be read here. It was first published in German by Radio Eins, and then translated for this page by Franziska Ress. "The Nightly Disease" is number thirty-two in its secenth week on the Norwegian album chart list, Topp 40, having fallen eleven places since last week. May 5th 2001 - Two new bootlegs, both really good audience recordings from Trondheim on March 16th and Oslo on March 31st, were added to the Live Bootleg Recordings. May 4th 2001 - Something I almost forgot: On April 26th the Norwegian newspaper VG published a short article about a celebrational concert for Bob Dylan's 60th birthday at Rockefeller in Oslo, Norway on May 24th. Amongst other well-known Norwegian artists, Sivert Høyem will perform with the house band for the evening, The Rolling Thunders Revisited. In the same newspaper there was an article about Norwegian newcomers having trouble selling records. On a list of record sales it said that Madrugada's "The Nightly Disease" has sold 35.000 copies in Norway so far. Madrugada were also mentioned briefly in the article.
