News: What is happening in the world of Madrugada and on this page? I try to stay as updated as possible, and I will try to bring you the latest rumours and facts concerning Madrugada. Of course, you will also be able to read all the interesting stuff about what has been updated or changed on this very webpage. E-mail - webmaster@madrugada.de.
June 29th 2001 - Some minor updates on Internet Resources and The Concert Chronology. I finally got around to clean up the Concert Reviews section, which now looks a slightly bit better. Twenty-six pictures from Wrightegaarden in Langesund, Norway will be available soon, along with close to one hundred pictures from the Norwegian Wood festival. June 26th 2001 - Madrugada posted another message at their official website, madrugada.net today. The band express excitement over the concerts they will play the fortcoming weekend, especially since they will plat at the main stage at the Roskilde Festival with a stand-in bass player they have never played live with before. They also reveal the name of the stand-in bass player, Jon's brother Tomas Lauland Pettersen, who usually plays with Perculator. They also write that Cato Salsa from Cato Salsa Experience once again will join them on guitar and synthesizer, for the third time this summer, at the Roskilde Festival. June 25th 2001 - According to two NRK P1 producers, Madrugada's performance at the Norwegian Wood festival in Oslo on June 9th is scheduled for broadcast on August 17th and 31st, but changes to the schedule may occur. The Bob Dylan tribute will most likely also be broadcast over again, but an air date has not been set, and it is unsure whether the songs not initially broadcast will be broadcast the next time. Thanks a lot to Raymond Hauger for this information. Last night NRK P3 aired Madrugada's performance at the Roskilde Festival last year. It was a cut forty-minute broadcast, but unlike the previous broadcast on Danish radio, the Norwegian broadcast also included the encore, "Highway 2.000.000." The songs broadcast: 1. Beautyproof 2. Belladonna 3. Higher 4. We are Go 5. Black Mambo 6. Salt 7. Norwegian Hammerworks Corp. 8. Highway 2.000.000 The French radio station Öui FM also aired Madrugada last night, the complete Öui FM radio session the band did at La Scène in Paris, France on March 6th. What is worth noticing about this broadcast is the inclusion of the only known live performance of "Ready To Carry You." The songs broadcast: 1. Ready To Carry You 2. Only When You're Gone 3. A Deadend Mind 4. Hands Up - I Love You 5. Vocal 6. Black Mambo 7. Belladonna June 23rd 2001 - Last night, NRK P1 broadcast about one hour from the Bob Dylan tribute at Rockefeller last month. "Not Dark Yet," performed by Sivert Høyem with Rolling Thunders Revisited was the last song broadcast, while Sivert's cover of "Positively 4th Street" was unfortunately not broadcast. When it came to the rest of the broadcast, some covers were really nice, while others were, well, not exactly the most pleasurable musical experiences I personally have ever heard... When speaking of musical experiences, a fantastically nice one is Seven's "At The Sixes And Sevens" album. Be sure to check it out if you can find it anywhere. June 22nd 2001 - Some happy news for the Madrugada fans going to the Roskilde Festival this summer: Madrugada will play on the Orange Stage, the main stage, at 16:00 Friday June 29th, as opposed to the smaller Green Tent which was previously reported. More information about the festival can be found on the festival homepage. The interview with Sivert done by NRK P1 Nordland is now available online. A page with a short summary of the interview and a link to the sound file can be found here, or you can click here to go directly to the sound file. June 20th 2001 - Madrugada's "Ketchup And Marmelade" radio session for French Öui FM, recorded at La Scène, Paris, France on March 6th will be aired on Öui FM this Sunday. More information should be available at http://www.ouirock.com, for those who understand french... Thanks a lot to Casper for this information. Apparently, the broadcast will also be available for download from the same webpage for a short period of time. The Bob Dylan tribute at Rockefeller in Oslo last month will be broadcast on the Norwegian radio channel NRK P1 this Friday at 22:10. Whether the two songs performed by Sivert, "Not Dark Yet" and "Positively 4th Street," will be aired is not known. Last week Madrugada were supposed to have played three mini-concerts at FNAC stores in Paris, Lyon and one other town in France, but these were canceled due to Frode's ear problems. Thanks to Vinciane Lébrun for the information. The festival in Luxembourg that Madrugada will be playing at on September 9th is called Terres-Rouges. Thanks to Christina Buech for the information. Make sure to buy the newly-release "Origin Of Symmetry" album by Muse, as it is truly fantastic. While at it, be sure to pick up a copy of St. Thomas' "Cornerman" EP if you are lucky enough to live in a country where it is released, as that one is also truly fantastic. Madrugada were mentioned in the Norwegian newspaper VG today, in an article about Norwegian artists such as St. Thomas, Big Bang and Sondre Lerche releasing EPs. Madrugada were named as the creators of the EP-trend here in Norway, which must be nice for them. I almost forgot about this: There was an interview with Sivert in the Norwegian newspaper Dagsavisen some time ago, which can be read here. Thanks a lot to Oddmung Berge for informing me about this. June 18th 2001 - According to madrugada.net, the Hurricane and Southside festival appearances in Germany have been canceled due to Frode's ear problems. The band hopes to go through with the rest of the festival schedule, but unfortunately with a stand-in bassist. When Madrugada had to cancel some shows in Norway earlier this year due to Frode's ear problems, it was rumoured that he was suffering from incurable tinnitus. Luckily, this is not true. Frode is suffering from an overblow on his eardrum, and he will be staying at a health clinic in Estonia for ten days to hopefully cure his problem. We wish him good luck. Madrugada's management, Art Pro AS, have finally put up their webpage, located at http://www.artproas.no/. So far, the page, which is in Norwegian, does not contain a lot of interesting Madrugada information, just a press release from January and two press photographs. But in the future a lot more will be added, including a text by Sivert about the "The Nightly Disease" recording sessions. Hopefully an English version will also be available. More festival tour dates added to The Concert Chronology. Thanks a lot to madrugada.net, virgin.de and Bernadette for the information. According to the Norwegian Wood-edition of the music paper Puls, Madrugada will go on another tour this Autumn. June 12th 2001 - A page about the Norwegian Wood festival has been put up. It features concert reviews and setlists from Madrugada's concert at the Norwegian Wood festival this Saturday and the 'warm-up' concert at Wrightegaarden in Langesund the day before. Also features five pictures from Norwegian Wood. I took two hundred and twenty pictures during the two concerts, most of which look rather good, a lot of these will be put up in the future. June 11th 2001 - "A Deadend Mind EP" is scheduled for release in August. It will feature "A Deadend Mind" as the title track and four bonus tracks recorded exclusively for the EP. The cover will be white with red stripes and text, with a black drawing of a naked woman done by Sivert, which was also used on the CD of the "Hands Up - I Love You" EP. This according to a promotional flyer from Virgin distributed at the Norwegian Wood festival. Thanks a lot to Christian Ress for his help with the Discussion Forum. June 8th 2001 - Madrugada's performance at the Norwegian Wood festival this weekend will be thoroughly covered on this page. I will be attending the festival, and I have also attained a photo passport, so early next week a concert review will be posted, along with as many of the pictures that turn out good as possible. Warm-up for the Norwegian Wood festival will be Madrugada's concert at Wrightegaarden in Langesund, Norway tomorrow, where there will also be written a concert review and taken pictures. If any visitors of this page are going to any of the two concerts, it would be nice to mee some of you. For an outdated picture of how I look like next to Jon, Frode and Robert, click here. Look for a guy with shorter hair who does not look like he belongs at a festival... The Norwegian radio channel P1 will be recording at the festival. On Saturday they will be broadcasting live from 18:00 until 20:00. Madrugada will be playing from 18:45, but the performance will most likely not be aired live. Those interested can listen to Musikkrevyen for more information. All recordings will be aired on the program P1-scenen some time this year. June 5th 2001 - The Norwegian newspaper VG published a long article about the Norwegian bands a-ha, Briskeby and Madrugada playing at the two major German festivals Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park this weekend, along with a short review of all three concerts. Madrugada's performance at Rock Am Ring on Friday got four out of six points, but according to the reviewer the sound and the audience was bad. A small picture of Sivert was also included. I have finally managed to find a good discussion forum and a decent server to host it. So, from today, madrugada: discussion forum is available for anyone who feels like discussing Madrugada as a whole, their concerts, tabs, lyrics, bootlegs or anything else. For now it is possible to post and read messages without registering at the forum, but registering is free and very easy, and therefore recommended, as this might change and as there will most likely be some special features for registered members of the forum every now and then. Link to discussion forum: http://www21.brinkster.com/madrugada/forum/ Madrugada will be featured on a tribute record to Neil Young, "Everybody Knows This Is Norway - A Tribute To Neil Young," that will be released on Switch Off Records in the beginning of July. Madrugada have recorded an eight minute and fifty seconds long cover of the song "Trasher." A cover of "Razor Love" by My Lady, featuring Robert on guitar, will also be included, along with fifteen other songs. More information about this later. Remember to buy "Amnesiac" by Radiohead, out today. One of the best records of the year. June 4th 2001 - Christina sent me a nice review of Madrugada's performance at the KAMA Festival in Germany last night. Apparently, the festival was poorly organized, and although about 3.500 visitors were awaited by the organizers, only about "400 punks and the local youth, along with the 10 yuppies who came to see Madrugada" attended the festival. There was no soundcheck, the audience did not know their music, and the band themselves apparently said they only wanted to go home, but according to Christina Madrugada did a really good concert. They closed their set with a song called "Local Norma Jean." Setlist - KAMA Festival, Idar Oberstein, Germany - June 3rd 2001: 1. Sister 2. Shine 3. Vocal 4. Hands Up - I Love You 5. Black Mambo 6. Two Black Bones 7. Beautyproof 8. Belladonna 9. Higher 10. Lucy One 11. Nightly Disease Part II 12. We Are Go 13. Step Into This Room And Dance For Me 14. Strange Colour Blue 15. Local Norma Jean June 2nd 2001 - Today the Norwegian newspaper VG published a story about Madrugada playing at seventeen European festivals this summer. The article is rather nice, but does not provide a lot of new information for those who stay up-to-date on the band. It features an amazingly cool picture of the band taken in their tour bus. The article does not seem to be available online, at least it was not last time I checked. June 1st 2001 - Tonight and tomorrow Madrugada will play at the two major German festivals Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park. Funnily enough, both webpages for the festivals link to this fanpage as the band's official page. Although the webmaster is amazingly flattered and proud because of this, it should be made clear that this is a fanpage, and is therefore not in any way affiliated with the band, their management or their record label, although a lot of people involved with the band have been incredibly nice when it comes to helping making this page as good as possible.
