July 29th 2001 - Yesterday the German music channel VIVA2 broadcasted a two-hour Rheinkultur 2001 Special. Madrugada were featured with "Sister" and "Hands Up - I Love You" plus an interview. During the interview, Jon said they were really excited about playing to such a large crowd, as the free Rheinkultur Festival had a capacity of 100.000 visitors. Stand-in bass player Tomas played double-bass on "Sister." Jon referred to it as an "interesting experiment" due to Frode being sick. During "Hands Up - I Love You" Sivert sat down to play the synthesizer, and no one on stage could help but laughing, as it sounded absolutely ridiculous. After the song, he said that they should have brought their own piano, as the one they got was terrible, but this was not broadcast on television. The American band Incubus were interviewed on the special, while Madrugada performed "Black Mambo" and "Belladonna" in the background. One of the members in the band were asked which bands he would like to see during the festival, and answered that he would only like to see the new band of Supa T, but that the band currently playing sounded really cool. The interviewed explained that the band was Madrugada from Norway, and that they sound very 'international.' Another member of Incubus then said they are "on with Norway now." July 28th 2001 - Aftenposten/Oslopuls published an interesting interview with Sivert today, which can be read here. Sivert talks about living at home with his mother, taking cabs and girls. The interview is in Norwegian. Thanks to Hilde Berg-Hansen for the link. July 27th 2001 - The forthcoming Madrugada tour is still in planning stages, but according to Sivert, they will do a two-legged tour this time. They will probably end up playing thirty to forty concerts in Norway and in Europe over a period of two months, finishing the tour in Greece around Christmas-time. But it has to be stressed that not much is certain yet, this is just how it looks like it is going to be at the current time. Thanks a lot to Sivert for the information. July 23rd 2001 - Three new concerts for Madrugada's European tour this Autumn have been submitted. On October 17th they will play at Moby Dick's in Madrid, Spain, on October 20th they will play at Razzamatazz in Barcelona, Spain and on November 22nd they will play at 013 in Tilburg, The Netherlands. Thanks a lot to Christina Buech and Marc Verhees for the info. July 20th 2001 - Some really great news: Madrugada are working on their third full-length album. On top of that, the release of an eight-track EP in August has been confirmed. The EP will, as previously reported, be called "A Deadend Mind EP," and will feature "A Deadend Mind" as the title track. It will also consist of four tracks recorded at Robert's Pearly Gate 4-track home studio, one track recorded at Hunger Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark right before the Roskilde Festival last year, "Fast Blues For Little V." recorded at Athletic Sounds in Halden, Norway and an acoustic version of "Vocal" performed live by Robert and Sivert on the French radio station France Inter in Paris, France on October 14th last year. Thanks a lot to Sivert Høyem for this information. He added that the second song he played acoustically during a NRK P1 Nordland radio interview earlier this year is called "Song Of Majesty," and since it is one of their better songs, it will most likely end up on the next album. According to Vinciane Lébrun, Madrugada will play at La Co-Opérative De Mai in Clermont Ferrand, France on October 13th as part of their European tour. July 19th 2001 - Five pictures taken by Vagelis Patsialos during Sivert and Robert's acoustic performance at Mo Better in Athens, Greece on April 10th are now available. First two pictures of Sivert here and here, then one of Robert, another one of Sivert and then a close-up of Sivert. Here is a flyer promoting the special acoustic set. Thanks a lot to Vagelis Patsialos. July 14th 2001 - According to Vagelis Patsialos who met Sivert and Jon at the Rockwave Festival in Greece on July 2nd, the information that the fortcoming "A Deadend Mind EP" will contain four tracks is wrong. Apparently, Sivert told him that it would be an eight-track EP, and that one of the tracks would be "Fast Blues For Little V." Here is some interesting info from Hilde Berg-Hansen: "Sivert has started to record a demo together with some friends, they call themselves The Rocket Scientists, at least I think they do. The band consists of Sivert, Simen Vangen, Rasmus Johansen and Magnus Tjersland. Last night they had a concert at Loftet in Sortland." Thanks to Hilde for this information. The Live Bootleg Recordings page has been updated with two different recordings of the Rheinkultur U & B festival performance in Bonn, Germany on June 30th. July 12th 2001 - According to Vinciane Lébrun, Madrugada are supposed to be playing at Le Café De La Dance in Paris, France on October 22nd, as part of a European tour planned for the Autumn. This information has not yet been confirmed by the band's management. Monika Meinhart went to see Madrugada for the first time at Rock Im Park in Germany in June. She is a photograph-artist, and since the concert she has been inspired by the "The Nightly Disease" album. One of her pictures, entitled "Blackflower," is available here. July 10th 2001 - For those who wonder what Madrugada's stand-in bass player, Jon's brother Tomas Lauvland Pettersen, looks like, a picture of him is available here. The picture was taken with a digital camera by Christina Buech at the Rheinkultur U & D festival in Germany on June 30th. July 9th 2001 - Madrugada's performance at the Rockwave Festival in Athens, Greece on July 2nd was canceled, along with all other performances that day, due to bad weather. According to Sivert Høyem, there will be more cancelations in the future, as playing with a stand-in bass player is not working for them. "We will have to wait until Frode is well, he is very important to the band, and it does not feel right to go on tour without him," Sivert said. "We just do not feel like playing any more crappy shows, we are a lot better than that, anobody who has been to one of those special shows would know that what I am saying is true." July 8th 2001 - Updated the Madrugada Discography with information about the newly-released tribute album "Everybody Knows This Is Norway (A Tribute To Neil Young)," featuring Madrugada covering "Trasher" and My Rhyme with Robert covering "Razor Love." The Dutch music magazine "Music Minded" recently published an interesting article about Madrugada, which has been translated into English and can be read here. Four cool pictures of the band members were also published, click for the pictures of Frode, Jon, Robert and Sivert. Thanks a lot to Marc Verhees for the pictures and the translation. July 3rd 2001 - Madrugada played at Rheinkultur U & D in Bonn, Germany this Saturday, a lot of really good pictures from that concert, taken by Christina Buech, are available at here. Sandro Boege submitted a nice review of the concert, saying it was raining a lot but that Madrugada were lucky and got on stage in between two rainstorms. According to Sandro, the band seemed to have problems with the sound. They were supposed to play from 17:40 to 18:25, but as the soundcheck was not finished until 17:55 they only played for thirty-nine minutes, performing only six songs, which were "Sister," "Vocal," "Hands Up - I Love You," "Black Mambo," "Belladonna" and "Higher." The concert was taped by two members of the audience, on DAT and on MiniDisc. Older News: Most of the older news pages are also being stored and are available from this page.
