News: What is happening in the world of Madrugada and on this page? I try to stay as updated as possible, and I will try to bring you the latest rumours and facts concerning Madrugada. Of course, you will also be able to read all the interesting stuff about what has been updated or changed on this very webpage. E-mail - webmaster@madrugada.de.

August 26th 2001 - Lots and lots of interesting information today. First of all, Sivert submitted a new text for The Angriest man In Norway section, this time a short but very interesting note on the two recent festival performances at Pukkelpop in Belgium and at Lowlands in the Netherlands. To go directly to it, please click here.

Sivert also added that Madrugada will be featured with a huge article in the September / October issue of the Norwegian lifestyle glossy Magazine 2001, an article the band is far from happy with, and wish they had not agreed to do it in the first place: "Don't read it, and whatever you do don't bother buying the Magazine, the pictures are bad, the styling is awful and the interview in its entirety is largely irrelevant."

Sivert Høyem and manager Carsten Jøssund also confirmed some information regarding the "A Deadend Mind EP." The official release date in Norway is August 27th, tomorrow, and the track listing posted yeterday is correct but with two mistitles. The last two songs are called "4 Track Country Songs Part 1" and "4 Track Country Songs Part 2," and both feature two songs on each track. Thanks a lot to Sivert and Carsten for this information.

The Swedish brand of Virgin's homepage, virgin.se, has "A Deadend Mind EP" listed for release in Sweden on August 20th. Thanks to Andreas Lindell for the information.

As reported yesterday, VPRO did in fact broadcast Madrugada from the Lowlands festival in Holland live on the Internet in both audio and video format. The broadcast was fifteen minutes delayed, though, but today they broadcast the first part of the concert. Apparently, most of the broadcasts will be available at their page, http://www.vpro.nl/lowlands, for view-on-demand. The Madrugada broadcast is at the time of writing not available.

VPRO broadcast "Departure #1," "Two Black Bones," "Strange Color Blue," "Hands Up - I Love You" and "Vocal" (cut) as re-run today, and "Black Mambo" (cut), "Belladonna," "Higher," "Lucy One," "We Are Go" and "Rollercoaster" live last night. The first song was referred to Sivert as "a brand new song," and sounds a bit like a country version of "The Nightly Disease Part I." Very good song indeed. Whether this is the complete set or not is uncertain, there might have been a song played between "Vocal" and "Black Mambo."

VPRO also had a television broadcast at night, which will apparently be re-run on the Dutch television channel Nederland 3 on September 4th at 15:13. Whether this will feature Madrugada or not is uncertain, but it should be worth checking out just in case.

According to Carla who wrote in the guestbook at madrugada.net, the band will play at Cactus Club in Brugge, Belgium on November 9th. This information has yet to be confirmed.

August 25th 2001 - When it comes to "A Deadend Mind EP," total confusions seems to have arised both when it comes to actual release date and when it comes to what will be on it:

Band members and online record stores operate with the release date August 20th, their management use the August 28th while, according to several music store clerks all over Norway, their record label use August 27th as the official release date. As if this was not enough, both CDON.com and Virgin Records report that there are only six songs on the so-called eight-track EP. Here is the tracklisting taken from the afore-mentioned online store:

1. A Deadend Mind
2. Vocal (acoustic)
3. View From A Hilltop
4. Fast Blues For Little V
5. 4 Track Country Song 1
6. 4 Track Country Song 2

I guess only time will show what is correct and what is in-correct information. Thanks a lot to Raymond Hauger and Andreas Lindell for the information.

In some happier news, it seems like the Dutch television channel VPRO will be broadcasting Madrugada's performance at the Lowlands festival live on the Internet tonight in both audio and video format. As far as I have understood from their page at http://www.vpro.nl/lowlands, Madrugada audio will be broadcast live between 21:00 and 21:45, while video will be broadcast between 21:30 and 21:45. Access to the broadcasts should be available in the Uitzendenschema section of the afore-mentioned page later tonight.

According to the French record store FNAC, Madrugada will be playing with a band called La Grande Sophie at La Co-Operative De Mai in Clermont-Ferrand, France on October 13th.

August 24th 2001 - The Swedish online music store Ginza now sells "A Deadend Mind EP" online. You can go directly to it by clicking here. Thanks to Andreas Lindell for the info.

August 22nd 2001 - On August 25th, the Norwegian Crown Prince will get married, and the Norwegian Prime Minister and his cabinet has decided that a nice gift for the newly-weds would be five hundred and thirty Norwegian albums in a specially designed CD rack. Amongst the albums selected is Madrugada's "The Nightly Disease," which for some reason is listed under the 'pop' category... Thanks to Nettavisen for this information.

Scorpio Concerts, who are responsible for Madrugada bookings in Germany, have also put up the complete concert shcedule for Germany this November, see news for August 20th. On a seperate page for concerts in Hamburg, they add that the tour will be called "The Nightly Disease Tour 2001," and that it will be supported by the two German music magazines kulturNews and Visions. For some reason, the concert in Hamburg is listed as taking place at Große Freiheit on that specific page, which is most likely incorrect.

August 20th 2001 - According to virgin.de, Madrugada will do seven concerts in Germany in November. On the 2nd they will plax at Markthalle in Hamburg, on the 3rd at Star Club in Dresden, on the 4th at Prime Club in Cologne and on the 5th they will play at Metropolis in München. Then on the 13th they will play at Batschkapp in Frankfurt, on the 15th at Röhre in Stuttgart and on the 16th at Columbiahalle in Berlin.

They will also play at La Laiterie in Strasbourg, France on october 10th, apparently with a band called Lazzi opening for them. Thanks a lot to Vinciane Lébrun for this information.

Some interesting information from the homepage of Switch/Off Records, who released the "Everybody Knows This Is Norway" Neil Young tribute-album, including Madrugada's cover of "Trasher": "Rumours say that "Trasher" is being rehearsed for use during encores at live concerts. Their addition to the record was recorded one afternoon on a 4-track by Robert and Sivert. Later it was mixed down on the DAT of Öystein Greni [from Big Bang]." Since this was originally published in Norwegian, it was poorly translated by the webmaster of this page.

When it comes to the same tribute-album, adressa.no put up a short story on June 30th: "'Neil Young said he felt honoured,' said Robert Burås after having handed over a copy of 'Everybody Knows This Is Norway' to his big hero. [...] The LP-version of the album is not finished yet, so the CD-hater Neil Young got the album on CD (along with Madrugada's latest). 'Do you have a CD player,' Burås asked him. 'Yeah, but I think it's broken,' answered Young."

"A Deadend Mind EP" was released today. As far as I have understood, it was only released in Norway and Sweden. One online music store that carries the EP is zailor.no. Thanks to Anders Bjørgan for this information. Over at madrugada.net, someone from the band posted a very short message, saying only "Remember to buy the new EP."

August 18th 2001 - The actual release date for "A Deadend Mind EP" is in fact August 20th, contrary to August 28th as was reported yesterday. But this only counts for the release in Norway. When or if it will ever be released in any other country other than Norway is entirely up to the various local branches of Virgin Records. Thanks a lot to Sivert Høyem for this info.

The EP is already available for order, at least from within Scandinavia, at CDON.com. Not many other online stores seem to have it available yet. Thanks to Andreas Lindell for this info.

August 17th 2001 - The expected release date for "A Deadend Mind EP" is August 28th. Thanks to Madrugada's management for this information.

August 15th 2001 - The "Hands Up - I Love You" video is now available in Quicktime Movie media format at madrugada.net. The videos are available for viewing in low and medium quality in a new videos section. A high quality version is not linked to, for some reason. The file size varies between four megabytes for the low quality file and fourteen megabytes for the high quality file. Hopefully more videos will follow soon!

The Norwegian band Pilate, who toured with Madrugada in the end of 1999 and beginning of 2000, have been in studio and finished recordings for their debut album using Lars Voldsdal, Madrugada's live sound engineer, as producer and technician. One year ago the band did initial recordings for their album with Frode from Madrugada as producer. More information on Pilate can be found at their official webpage. Thanks to Raymond Hauger for this information.

Everyone with access to the Norwegian radio channel NRK P1 should remember that the first part of Madrugada's performance at the Norwegian Wood Festival in Oslo on June 9th will be broadcast at 22:05 on Friday, August 17th. The second part will be broadcast in two weeks.

Rumours say the "A Deadend Mind" eight-track EP is due for release on August 20th, but I have not seen this confirmed anywhere. It is unknown to me in which countries it will be released, but it seems definite that Germans will never see this EP in domestic stores.

August 13th 2001 - The Exclusive Madrugada Pictures section has been re-arranged. Each concert is now featured on a seperate page with thumbnails and a information regarding the pictures, while the main page of the pictures section has links to all the concerts with a brief summary about each concert. There are currently one hundred and eighty one pictures available, all of them taken by myself, and more will be added as soon as I have time to.

August 12th 2001 - Mariela from the local music promoter in Stuttgart, Germany informed me that Madrugada will pe playing at Röhre in Stuttgart on November 15th. This is part of their European tour this Autumn.

August 9th 2001 - Some minor changes on layout of the page today, nothing that should be very noticeable, except for The Angriest Man In Norway section, which looked very bad the way it was initially set up. Hopefully it looks a slightly bit better now. The Information Center now features another special gem for those who for whatever reasons have not looked through all old news pages for this page.

August 7th 2001 - Today I proudly present a very special addition to this page. Sivert from the band has been kind enough to agree to write a couple of texts exclusively for this page every now and then, which will all be featured in his own The Angriest Man In Norway section.

The first text, "Notes On Stealing" is now available, along with an introduction about why he has chosen to write these texts for this page. In the first text Sivert expresses his thoughts and feelings when it comes to the issue of people saying that the music Madrugada produce is taken from someone they look up to: "Personally I feel that [this] does matter. Originality is closely connected to artistic integrity and pride, both virtues that we treasure very much in this band and that we do not want to see stripped from us without a fight."

Including Sivert's new section, there are a couple of other changes on the main page. A couple of links have been moved from the main menu to a new section called The Information Center. The link to the Madrugada Discussion Forum was moved from the bottom of the page to the main menu. Also, Madrugada Discography was updated with a couple of promos.

August 6th 2001 - On August 3rd Jon posted a very interesting message at Madrugada's official webpage, madrugada.net. He writes about ear problems, Frode's health and the forthcoming European and Norwegian tour this Autumn. The full message follows:

"As you might have observed, we had to cancel a few shows due to a pair of ears haunted by constant ringing. It is a cruel business, this rock'n roll. By the way, the tinnitus ghost has actually haunted more than one of us. As I am writing this, I sense a hint of that high frequent-son-of-a-bitch-sound in my left ear, but luckily just slightly. It is not a problem... yet. So; this is a warning to all of you: Wear earplugs!"

"Anyway, Frode has recovered very well, and he is soon ready to again become a part of the coolest rock entourage that ever came out of Norway. That is just in time, since there is a major tour coming up in the autumn, including new territories like Portugal and Spain. And... in the end of November we will make up for the cancellation in Greece last month. I guess that message goes out to all the disappointed Greek fans we met in July... a message that also goes out with a warning: You better get used to it - it always rains when we play outdoor shows!!"

"The European tour ends with six or seven shows in Norway, and at the moment we are looking at doing two shows in one of our favourite towns - Tromsų, at a smaller venue than we did last time. (That stadium-habit just makes you nasty, does it not?) All in all, thirtysomething shows, I think. Cheers to the prisoners of the white line of the highway."

"By the way, we are ready for Lowlands and Pukkelpop! Switzerland, the 10th of August is cancelled. Sorry."

August 3rd 2001 - Seventy-one pictures taken by myself at the Norwegian Wood Festival at Frognerbadet in Oslo, Norway on June 9th plus twenty-six pictures from Wrightegaarden in Langesund, Norway the day before are now available in the Exclusive Madrugada Pictures section. Sorry about the long delay, but it obviously takes quite a while to scan this much.

Due to all the thumbnails, the pictures page now takes quite a long time to load, but with a little bit of patience it should be alright. I will make the thumbnails that were put up earlier smaller to decrease the size quite a bit. Hopefully the pictures are worth the wait.

August 2nd 2001 - The first part of Madrugada's performance at the Norwegian Wood Festival in Oslo, Norway on June 9th will be broadcast on the Norwegian radio channel NRK P1 at 22:05 on August 17th. The second part will be broadcast two weeks later.

Within a couple of days, seventy pictures from the Norwegian Wood Festival will be available on this page. The reason for this many pictures being made available is simply that I think all of them look good enough to be published. There would be no need in taking all the pictures if they would only end up under a pile of dust in some drawer.
