News: What is happening in the world of Madrugada and on this page? I try to stay as updated as possible, and I will try to bring you the latest rumours and facts concerning Madrugada. Of course, you will also be able to read all the interesting stuff about what has been updated or changed on this very webpage.

February 28th 2002 - At the Johnny Cash tribute on the 22nd, Madrugada played with a new drummer. I have not heard who this guy is, but he was supposedly very talented at what he did on stage. Madrugada played three Cash covers, "Big River," "A Little At A Time" and "Wanted Man," with the guitarist from 5:56, the backing band of the evening, joining on steel guitar on the last one. Parts of the tribute concert was filmed by television, it is unknown if any of Madrugada's set was filmed. Thanks to Raymond Hauger for the information.

February 20th 2002 - Madrugada will appear at a Johnny Cash tribute at Route 66 in Oslo, Norway this Friday. The event is a celebration of Cash's 70th birthday, and will include performances by Madrugada, Steinar Albrigtsen, Trond 'Lee' Asker & Kjetil Johnsen, Bjørn Kulseth, Tine Valand and Hilde Heltberg, Johnny Cash videos and a display of some of his art. Here is a promotional poster for the event. Thanks to Raymond Hauger for this information.

February 17th 2002 - City Slang are scheduled to release a Lee Hazlewood tribute album in the relatively near future. Artists on the album will include Madrugada, Lambchop, St. Etienne, Erlend Øye from Kings Of Convenience, St. Thomas and Evan Dando from Lemonheads. Rumours are going around regarding Madrugada's cover, which is supposed to be fabulous.

February 12th 2002 - Some very sad news today; the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet writes that drummer Jon Lauvland Pettersen is no longer a part of Madrugada. "It is almost against the laws of nature to play in a band as many years as we have without there being disagreements or someone wishing to go other ways. For me it is easier to quit than to stay in the band and be unhappy," he is quoted as saying.

The disagreements within the band supposedly grew larger during the band's European tour last Autumn, and Jon is said to have been out of the band since around Christmas. He is planning a new band with his brother Thomas, bass player in Perculator and fill-in for Frode in Madrugada last Summer, and with a friend of his called Christian Lysvåg, but they are still only on the song-writing stage. Here at madrugada.de we wish him good luck with whatever he might do in the future. Thank you so much for everything, Jon.

In other news, the article, which can be read here (in Norwegian), says that the rest of the band will soon return to Athelic Sound studios in Halden, Norway to continue recording their third album. Expected release is said to be in October.

February 11th 2002 - One month without updates, and only two updates to this page last month. I am terribly sorry about that, but it is quite simply due to the fact that the band has been completely out of the news since the middle of December last year. Who can blame them, they need the little rest that they can get. They are most likely very busy working on new tunes for the next record, which they are expected to go into studio to record this Spring.

This page may not be updated a lot in the very near future, but be sure to check back every now and then, as everything will be up and running as soon as something starts happening.
