News: What is happening in the world of Madrugada and on this page? I try to stay as updated as possible, and I will try to bring you the latest rumours and facts concerning Madrugada. Of course, you will also be able to read all the interesting stuff about what has been updated or changed on this very webpage.
September 21st 2002 - The new edition of the Norwegian music magazine Mute will be out in stores in October. But those who attended the festival Sement #3 in Oslo this weekend got a free advance copy of the magazine, which features a big article on Madrugada. In addition, it reveals the tracklist for the new album "Grit":
See October 3rd update.
Thanks a lot to Are and Raymond Hauger for the information. The running times for each track were taken from
virgin.de, who updated their Madrugada page. There is some uncertainity whether the correct title for track five is "7 Seconds" or "Seven Seconds Flat," whether track nine is "Song Of Majesty" or only "Majesty" and whether track ten is "Try, Try, Try" with or without the commas or maybe just "Try."
Also, the new issue of Mute does not list track twelve, and producer of "Grit," Head, has said that only eleven tracks were mixed for inclusion on the album. Why this is listed on the Virgin page is unknown, time will show whether it will actually be on the album or not.
Virgin have also put up a better version of the cover of "Grit," better than the version from Platekompaniet that was put up on this page some days ago. Though it is still as small as the first pictures, it shows that Platekompaniet put up a faulty black and white version instead of the actual cover. Click
here to see it.
There are also two new pictures of the band available at Virgin, click
here and
here to see them. According to Virgin, the release date for "Grit" in Germany will be October 21st. In addition to this there is some new text about the band available, but in German. Parts of this will be translated and put up here, here is a short quote thanks to Franziska Ress:
"The title Grit has been taken from Henry Miller's novel 'Black Spring.' It is about workers on shipyards that all have black hands from their work. When they die and the dead bodies are washed the dirt is so deep that it can not be washed off. It is like a patina that life itself leaves behind. Something of this raw, dirty feeling can also be found on the album."
September 19th 2002 - This one slipped out of the last update: The tracklist for "I'm Ready EP" has been confirmed. There will be two different versions of the EP, one will be a two-track single while the other will be a four-track EP. Version one includes "I'm Ready" and "I Feel Hard," while the four-track version also features the tracks "Moving Up Now" and "Zebra Vs Leopard." Thanks to Andreas Lindell and
cdon.com for information.
September 18th 2002 - The new Madrugada album, "Grit," has been confirmed for release on October 14. "I'm Ready EP" will be released as a four-track EP and as a two-track single on September 30th. Thanks to
platekompaniet.no you can see very small images of the "Grit" cover
here and "I'm Ready EP"
here. Proper images will be made available as soon as I get ahold of them. Thanks to Raymond Hauger for information.
When it comes to European release dates for "I'm Ready EP," nothing is known to have been confirmed. "Grit" will supposedly be released on October 28th in Germany, most likely this will also apply to other European countries, even though some European online stores list October 16th as the release date.
Madrugada are scheduled to appear as musical guests on talkshow program Store Studio on the Norwegian television channel NRK1 on October 16th. The program lasts for half an hour, but the program continues for another half an hour that is aired on the radio channel NRK P2. Bands play a mini-concert of three or four songs, not all songs are necessarily aired on television. Guests will also be interviewed on the radio in the second half. Thanks to Bård A. Olsen and Raymond Hauger for information.
In the latest issue of the Norwegian music magazine "Musikk Praksis" there is an artcile where Head, who co-produced the new Madrugada album, is interviewed. The article is mainly based on recording techniques and equipment, but should be an interesting read. There is a short part of the article where a member of the band (uncredited, thus it is unknown which member) is interviewed, saying they had fifty to sixty songs prepared before they went to Germany to record. Seventeen or eighteen of these were recorded, only eleven were properly mixed for inclusion on "Grit." The rest will be released on EPs and in other ways, according to the article.
The band member says the band's sound has changed a lot since "The Nightly Disease," and that fans will have to get used to the change. "Overall this is the hardest and most stripped-down music we have ever done," he says. "Head made us sound less polished and straight, the feeling on the record is much rawer and powerful, and the musical expression is more naked than before. The previous albums have been more vague, but this one is anchored in a straight-from-the-street realism, which is how rock should be."
Thanks to Are for the information.
The Concert Chronology has been updated, the European tour schedule should now be rather complete, thanks to
virgin.no.
September 10th 2002 - There have been some more updates to
The Concert Chronology, thanks to Ingrid, Martin B. Lange and
folken.no. In addition, this page is now is co-operating with
madrugada.tk, which is a very nice fan project started by Leo Postma to create a database of the available Madrugada resources on the Internet. The database is in its early stages, given some time it will hopefully turn out great.
Madrugada will be on German TV again this month. In August the channel Bayerisches Fernsehen aired fifteen minutes of the band's performance at Taubertal Open Air at Rothenburg od der Tauber on July 20th, this time around the same channel will be broadcasting from the same performance, but most likely half an hour this time. The concert is scheduled to be aired on September 24th at 23:50, it is a one-hour program that will be split into presenting Madrugada and the Danish band Saybia. You can find more information
here. Thanks to Rubert Pupkin from the
Discussion Forum.
September 6th 2002 - More updates to
The Concert Chronology, thanks to Leo Postma and Jean-Paul Monseu and Bård Olsen. Unlike previously reported, it seem the Norwegian part of the tour will not end on December 1st as I was told by the band's management.
