News: What is happening in the world of Madrugada and on this page? I try to stay as updated as possible, and I will try to bring you the latest rumours and facts concerning Madrugada. Of course, you will also be able to read all the interesting stuff about what has been updated or changed on this very webpage.
January 24th 2003 - There has been a major update to
The Concert Chronology, including the entire schedule for the Norwegian part of the band's next tour, and some concerts in Europe have been confirmed. Thanks a lot to Carsten Jøssund at Madrugada's booking agency ArtPro AS, Kathrin Sunde, Tony Engelmann, Schumi3 and Fokelien Schuring for the information.
January 19th 2003 - The correct title of the bonus track on "Grit" seems to finally have been confirmed as being "Love's Institution," the same title it was referred to when performed live in Autumn 2001. Confusion arose when promo copies of "Grit" listed the song as "(Ghost) Loves Institution," and a limited edition seven inch vinyl featuring the song was listed as "Love's 1." The latter was thought to be the catalogue number and not an actual song title, and this seems confirmed now that Bård Olsen has noticed the title "Love's Institution" etched into the actual vinyl.

here to see the etched "Love's Institution" on the actual vinyl. Thanks to Bård for providing the last two images, the last one has more brightness and contrast added to it so that it is easier to see the words that are etched in. From now on the song will be referred to as "Love's Institution" on this page, and all documents featuring the old title have been changed.
Also, the story behind the old gospel song that Madrugada did a cover of on their Norwegian tour in Spring 2001 has finally been revealed, thanks to Leo Postma. The title of the song was unknown even to the band, they just did a cover of a song they had heard Nina Simone play, based on a very old gospel song. The song is called "Trouble In Mind," and was originally performed by Bertha 'Chippie' Hill and written by Big Bill Broonzy, but Madrugada's cover was based on Nina Simone's slightly different version of the song. When covering the song, Sivert did not sing all the verses, but only repeated the first two over and over again, so it might be considered more of an interpretation of "Trouble In Mind" than an actual cover version.
The
Rare Songs Guide has had a massive update, with the information above added in addition to lots of other working titles and some unreleased songs being added. In total there are now ninety songs listed in the guide.
January 17th 2003 - Three Madrugada concert dates for Greece in April have been added to
The Concert Chronology. The band will play at Ydreigos Club in Thessaloniki on April 4th and at Rodon Club in Athens on the 5th and 6th. Thanks a lot to the
Greek Madrugada Fan Club for the information. Also, a setlist for the last concert in Frankfurt, Germany last year has been added to
The Concert Chronology 2002, thanks to Tobias Grim.
The Madrugada
Tour Diary at VG Nett has been updated with pictures and information from the last concerts they did on the last tour. A very interesting read, and it seems they will continue with the diary on the forthcoming tour. Eventually translated versions of the last entires will be made available on this page, but it takes quite some time to get everything translated.
January 8th 2003 -
Neil McNasty Photo Special has been updated with lots more pictures directly from Madrugada's light engineer, and also a bit better text about all of the pictures.
January 7th 2003 - Madrugada's "Grit" has been nominated for Spellemannsprisen in the rock category, along with Ai Phoenix' "Lean That Way Forever," Gluecifer's "Basement Apes," JR Ewing's "Ride Paranoia" and Vidar Vang's "Rodeo." Spellemannsprisen is the Norwegian equivalent to the American Grammys, and at the 2000 awards Madrugada won an in the same category in 2000 for "Industrial Silence" in addition to performing "Higher" live on the televised broadcast. This year's Spellemannsprisen will be aired live from Oseberg Kulturhus in Tønsberg, Norway on the channel TV2 on February 22nd, the same day Madrugada are scheduled to play at Rockefeller in Oslo, Norway.
On the official Norwegian album chart list, VG Topp 40, "Grit" climbed to an impressing 12th place in its 11th week on the charts this week, up from a 33rd place last week. The reason for this climb most likely has to do with the major music chain store Platekompaniet having put the album on their "Top Ten Norwegian Records 2002" that are now being sold at a cheaper price than usual. On the charts, "Grit" was on 35th place in both its 8th and its 9th week on the charts, down from a 26th place in its 7th week.
Three tour dates have been added to
The Concert Chronology, Madrugada will play at Folken in Stavanger, Norway on February 7th, at Hulen in Bergen, Norway on February 9th and at Het Burgerweeshuis in Deventer, The Netherlands on March 20th. More dates will be added to the list as soon as they get confirmed. Thanks to Tommy Andersen and Tonny Engelman for info.
The
Neil McNasty Photo Special section will be updated tomorrow with ten more pictures taken by Neil McNasty and some more information regarding where and when the pictures were taken. Neil also expressed his gratitude for those who have taken their time to comment the pictures he has taken in the
Guestbook and on the
