Default New Album

Earlier this year I heard Sivert talking about the band going into a studio this spring to record new songs, and hopefully make a new album; anybody know how that's going?

A band that I know were at Athletic Sounds in Halden recently, and there were Madrugada master tapes from March lying around in the studio there. I have not managed to get a confirmation on whether any new material was on these tapes, but I did get confirmation that 'something' has been recorded. Exactly what it is and how it will be used I am not supposed to tell at the moment, but it should be unveiled pretty soon I reckon, and it should be pretty interesting.

I really hate being cryptic, sometimes ignorance really is bliss

Apart from that, the latest news entry at www.madrugada.net from the Yew York trip read "Mark Steiner came up to join us for Ruinnin' Outta Time which is really finding it's feet live. Can't wait til we get in to the studio to records that!" so I suppose that means they have not started any proper recordings yet at least, but I am sure they have done demo sessions.

Earlier, there were actually very different plans for a release by the name of "Ivory Town" and the use of that song. But since nothing has been decided yet I do not think I am allowed to reveal it...

Either way I am so happy they have resurrected "Ivory Town," it is such a fabulous song. I first heard it live in 1999 and fell in love with it then. They only played it a handful of times. My fondest Madrugada memory of all time is sitting in the basement of the venue in Zürich in Autumn 2000 with the band, waiting for the concert to start and discussing which songs they should play that night. Sivert strummed his acoustic guitar and played "Ivory Town" for me, that short and inpromptu performance is my highlight of several years of fabulous experiences with this band. They did not end up playing the song live, but played "River Guard" by Smog instead. Sivert used my favorite pen to write the setlist, and handed it back broken. What an asshole... hehe.

I saw Madrugada at Last Train a couple of months ago. Last Train is a tiny club in Oslo (for all you non-osloers etc). I prefer seeing them playing intimate concerts at small clubs. Not saying that they aren't any good at big venues, but I think they are a lot better at small clubs. Anyway..

They played a handful of new songs, and they were all very promising. "I Think We're Running Out of Time" is really great. Very cool. "Ramona" sounds really good. I also like "Ivory Town" (I believe written during the I.S. era).

Default New Songs

Does anyone have a list of all the new songs Madrugada have debuted on the last concerts? I.e. songs that may end up on the new record.

I only know of these four:

"I Think We're Running Out Of Time"
"Ivory Town"
"Ramona"
"Lift Me"

"I Think We're Running Out Of Time" is definitely going on the new album, it has been kicking around as one of their best new songs since early last year. "Ivory Town" is very old, but is done with new arrangements. As mentioned there have been different plans for this song, crossing my fingers they finally manage to get it out somehow, it is fabulous. "Ramona" was debuted last Summer, still being played and we should expect to see it on a release. "Lift Me" I have no idea about, but it has been played live.

Then there are a few live covers they have done lately:

"Hospital"
"Slip Inside This House"
"Devil Called Deception"
"Interzone"

None of these will probably end up on an album, but there were plans to release "Slip Inside This House" as a tribute split-seven-inch with We last Autumn. Those plans seemed to go down the drain, for whatever reason.
